**Introduction**

**THIS IS A NEW ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION.** The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year but can be extended.

**APPLICATION PROCESS:** A properly completed application, supplemental questionnaire and DMV printouts must be in the possession of the Human Resource Services Department by 5:00 p.m. on the Last Day for Filing. Failure to submit the application, supplemental questionnaire, and the required DMV printouts will result in disqualification. Applications will only be accepted on-line.

* A Valid California Medical Examination Certificate.

* DMV Driver History Report

**DESCRIPTION**

**THE AGENCY**

Alameda County General Services Agency (GSA) delivers a host of logistical support services to County agencies and partners from maintenance of facilities and County fleet to energy and environmental management services, capital project management, procurement services, and clean commute and recycling programs. The GSA Community strives not only to provide these services but to also facilitate collaborative and innovative approaches in its efforts. While the GSA Community largely focuses on support services for Alameda County departments and other public agencies, the work has a direct impact on the communities. **THE POSITION** Under direction, to drive a truck, primarily for delivery and pick up services, loading and unloading as necessary; acts as working lead over a small crew; may operate machinery in a warehouse environment; and to do related work as required.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**

Experience:

The equivalent of six months full-time experience driving a truck of at least 26,001-pound Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) capacity.

License:

Possession of a valid State of California Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with an Air Brake Endorsement.

Certification:

Possession of a valid California Medical Examiners Certification.

Special Requirement:

Compliance with Federal Highway Administration Rules, Federal Transit Authority Rules, and the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991.

Federal law and County policy requires that positions in the class of Truck Driver are subject to post-offer/pre-placement/pre-duty, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, random, return-to-duty and follow-up drug and alcohol testing.

Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance.

NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.

**KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS**

**The most suitably qualified candidates will possess the following competencies:**

Knowledge of:

Pertinent California Transportation Motor Vehicle Code.

Pertinent City, State and Federal laws, ordinances, and safety regulations

Basic mechanical duties.

Safety practices and procedures including the use of safety equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Warehouse safety practices and machinery, e.g., forklifts, balers, crushers, etc.

Basic computer skills

Ability to:

Drive safely and skillfully.

Work well in a team environment.

Comply with traffic laws.

Properly load and unload heavy equipment, furniture, and other materials.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete and maintain applicable documentation.

Perform manual labor.

Demonstrate attention to detail.

Plan, organize and schedule assigned tasks.

Use hand tools and power tools in a safe manner.

Works safely in a warehouse environment.

Work in all weather conditions.

Provide excellent customer service.

**EXAMINATION COMPONENTS**

The examination will consist of the following steps:

- A review of the candidates applications to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process.

- A review of candidates Supplemental Questionnaire to further verify minimum qualifications.

- An Oral Examination which will be weighted as 100% of the candidates final examination score.
