The Nursing Shift Supervisor supervises the delivery of nursing services in accordance with the department philosophy of positive resident outcome and through management team attitude.
*Qualifications:*
* Graduate of an approved School of Nursing.
* Must be CPR/First Aid Certification
* Supervisory experience and nursing home experience preferred but not essential.
* Related skills in leadership, management, interpersonal relations, networking, public relations, and systems theory desirable.
* Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
* Licensed Nurse with a current Ohio Registration.
*Position Responsibilities*
* Reports to Nursing Administrative Team: Director of Nursing
* Works Beyond routinely scheduled hours, in other positions temporarily, when necessary and as directed.
* Assumes additional duties or responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Administrative Team or Administration.
* Delivers and directs nursing care in accordance with accepted standards of nursing practice, facility and departmental policies and procedures, mission and vision. Pursuant to the Ohio Board of Nursing requirements, if the Nursing Shift Supervisor is a LPN, the LPN Nursing Shift Supervisor shall not directly supervise the nursing care and services being rendered by Registered Nurses, but shall address administrative and management issues. If supervision is required of the Registered Nurses nursing care and services, the Director of Nursing or other Registered Nurse designee shall be contacted to address such issues.
* Teaches, uses and directs staff in a problem solving approach to resident care characterized by thorough data collection, analysis, planning of outcomes and process steps, implementation and evaluation.
* Maintains a professional appearance in accordance with the facility policy.
* Represents positively the departments goals, policies, and procedures as his/her own, actively interacts with other administrative/management staff as a team member.
* Initiates and seeks opportunities for development of self and departmental goals.
* Assists staff/charge nurses to organize responsibilities to insure that all care required is delivered daily in a professional manner for the resident to reach and or maintain the highest practical, physical, mental, spiritual, and psychosocial well being.
* Gives directives and effectively follow-up expectations that promote an organized, calm, stress reduced environment in which residents can live.
* Receives report on the current status of residents on each unit, makes unit rounds to visualize and assess residents with conditions of concern, delivers or directs subsequent care needs in accordance with the accepted practice standards and communicates an informed report to the following shift.
* Monitors staff delivery and evaluation of resident care.
* Ensures appropriate delegation of responsibilities/assignments to unit personnel for delivery of quality care of life to all residents.
* Uses effective verbal and written communication skills.
* Maintains resident, family, and physician contact to inform of all order/condition changes, incidents and plans for care as situationally warranted or directed by policy.
* Establishes and promotes team relationships among unit personnel, inter and intra departmentally through role modeling, networking, delegating and effective interpersonal skills.
* Organizes workload to accommodate flexibility for response to unexpected changes or emergencies.
* Supervises all residents who employ resident companions insuring residents care needs are met/supervised by licensed state tested and/or registered personnel.
* Insures thorough documentation.
* Knowledgeable of and insures practice and task completion in accordance with all facility policy and procedure manuals.
* Monitors accurate usage and inventory of narcotics in compliance with the facility policies and procedures.
* Insure proper utilization and maintenance of facility equipment.
* Is knowledgeable of and insures personnel maintain confidentiality of all resident care information.
* Insures cleaning duties and inventory tasks assigned to the unit and shift are completed.
* Communicate staff call offs of other departments to the appropriate persons.
* Is knowledgeable of nursing departments current policies on staff replacement, and facility personnel policies on absenteeism, tardiness, and discipline, ect.
* Adjust staff to accommodate unit care needs at beginning and end of each shift for own and oncoming shift.
* Is knowledgeable of Emergency/Disaster policies and is aware of responsibilities regarding the same.
* Ensures the disciplinary action is administered fairly and without regard to race, color, creed, nation origin, age, sex, religion, handicap, or martial status.
* Ensured that residents rights to fair and equitable treatment, self determination, individuality, privacy, property, and civil rights, including the right to wage a complaint are well established and maintained at all times.
* Ensure the principles and value of LHayim program are carried out.
* Other duties as assigned
