This job competently performs the duties of a staff pharmacist and also functions as a first line supervisor and primary resource person. This job monitors and coordinates daily clinical and distribution operations of the central pharmacy and decentralized pharmacy services, coordinates work-related activities of pharmacy students and pharmacy technicians in the absence of a tech lead, and monitors and reports all necessary quality improvement activities within the department on a daily basis.
Education

Required - Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy

Preferred - Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D)

Work Experience

Required - 1 year hospital experience.
Experience setting priorities, making critical decisions, and responding quickly to emergency requests, experience operating and maintaining automated pharmacy systems, and experience evaluating medical literature.

Certifications

Required - Current Pharmacy license in the state of practice

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information. Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
Job Duties
  • Performs all duties of staff pharmacist.
  • Coordinates pharmacy services/operations
  • Supervises, trains and develops department staff
  • Participates in performance improvement and quality assurance activities
  • Maintains systems for controlling, procuring, and distributing controlled substances.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

Physical and Environmental Demands

The physical essential functions of this job include (but are not limited to) the following: Frequently exerting 10 to 20 pounds of force to move objects; occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds of force.
