While reporting to the Director, Indirect and Services Category Management, the Category Manager is responsible for understanding the global market for the spend area he/she manages, and translating that knowledge into Sonoco opportunities. Opportunities could be reduced cost, improved technology, higher quality, better yield and increased dependability of demand, more value-added services, or acquisition candidates. Due to the strategic nature of the key commodities managed by this position, the effectiveness of this position is readily apparent to the bottom line of Sonoco.

What you'll be doing:

  • Analyze global marketplace trends and develop strategies to effectively manage and optimize Sonoco's spend in area of responsibility.
  • Initiate and lead global sourcing teams to reduce Sonoco cost and improve supplier performance.
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies that match business needs with supplier strengths.
  • Develop supply strategies that align with business needs and ensure business units take advantage of all enterprise available cost reductions.
  • Understand "technology" of spend area and work with "R&D" leaders to ensure our specifications take advantage of the marketplace while increasing Sonoco competitive advantage.
  • Achieve cost reduction targets per the approved performance management plan and business unit budgets.
  • Lead internal and cross-functional teams to improve spend area performance. Members of such teams are usually mid to senior level people from the business units or corporate functions
  • Provide work direction and guide daily activities of assigned people within the Supply Management organization.

Compensation:

The annual base salary range for this role is from $123,900 to $148,680, plus an annual target incentive of 12.5% of base salary.
