Description
Job Summary
This position provides professional audiology care to patients in our Otolaryngology department. This position assesses and tests for communication and balance disorders. In addition, this position performs various physician supervised treatments and services.
Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to)
- Ensure patient safety
- Completes full diagnostic hearing and balance assessments using the appropriate testing method and equipment for the patient type, diagnosis, and reason for referral.
- Formulates and/or implements a treatment plan to address deficits and patient/family areas of concern. This is to include amplification selections, fittings, and follow-up appointments.
- Provides education/consultation to patient, family, health care team
- Ensures maximum efficiency; set up examinations; documents test and other reports for physicians review
- Ensure that patient chart entries are made accurately and in a timely manner; forward chart as appropriate.
- Completes documentation and billing in a timely manner
- Obtain (in advance) pre-certifications, PA's and referrals when mandated by insurance company.
- Maintain adequate stock levels of supplies.
- Set up and stock exam rooms for daily use; keep rooms and equipment clean between patients; keep cleaning schedules up to date.
- Follow clinic policies for infection control.
- Keep physician informed of patient's status and any pending test results.
- Adhere to Customer Service Standards.
- Perform other tasks as needed, in assistance of physician .
- Must have predictable and consistent attendance.
- Complete charge tickets in a timely manner.
- This job has no supervisory responsibilities
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of the principles and skills needed for an audiologist to perform treatments and procedures.
- Knowledge of communication disorders, corrective treatment of the disorders.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
- Skill in using various types of equipment for treatment procedures.
- Skill in maintaining EHR documentation.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to recognize problems and recommend solutions.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situation.
- Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
- Good computer skills required.
- Skill in maintaining records.
- Doctor of Audiology preferred, Master's Degree (or equivalent experience) accepted
- 1 year of relevant experience
- State-issued Audiology license
- ASHA Certification in Audiology
- Licensed Audiologist
- Must be able to stand for 8 to 10 hours a day.
- Requires regular walking, bending, pushing, pulling and lifting.
- Must be able to lift at least 10-15lbs.
- Must be able to push or pull a patient bed up to 100lbs.
- Must be able to assist patients with transfers from chair to wheelchair, to exam tables, and back to wheelchair/chair.
- Must be able to assist patient with turning/positioning on exam table.
- Must be able to push patient in wheelchair.
- Must be able to manipulate objects-reaching, grasping, handling.
- Must exhibit good communication skills-understand, respond and translate into action.
- Clinical setting; exposure to communicable diseases, medical preparations and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
