Description

Job Title: Development Specialist

Location: Ability Partners Foundation

Salary: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour

Employment: Part Time/12 Month position - flexible hours working 25-27 hours per week (Monday - Friday). Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Summary/Objective
  • Supports the mission and vision of Ability Partners Foundation (APF) and Ability Partners (AP) agencies ~ CP Rochester, Happiness House, and Rochester Rehabilitation Center in fundraising, grant writing, database management, and administrative support. The main focus of the position is in direct support of the VP of APF/Development and the APF Director.
  • Research, identify, and apply for various grants that meet AP Agencies' needs, overseeing the grant application process from beginning to end.
  • Responsibilities for APF include donor database management and administrative/clerical support, particularly with fundraising events that include Autism Walk, Mini Golf Event, Golf Tournament, Bowling Tournament, WalkAbout, and various other community events.


Required Education and Experience
  1. One to three years of experience in administrative, clerical, and/or grant writing experience, ideally in the nonprofit sector.
  2. At least one year of experience in grant writing, prospect research, or general fundraising is strongly preferred.
  3. Thorough understanding of local, state, and federal funding sources and the ability to identify potential funding opportunities.
  4. In-depth understanding of grant funding policies, procedures and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  5. Proficient in effective grant writing techniques.
  6. Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and database applications.
  7. Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  8. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  9. Excellent project management skills and prioritization skills.
  10. Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  11. Highly organized and detailed oriented.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  1. Imparts agency philosophy of "Equal Opportunity, Independence and Realization of Individual Potential" to children, families, staff, and the community.
  2. Maintains confidentiality of individual and family information per agency policies.
  3. Researches various types of grants available and the criteria to qualify for each.
  4. Discusses available sources of funding with administrative Directors.
  5. Assists the Director of APF with executing all APF fundraising events with oversight from the VP of APF/Development.
  6. Assists in the coordination of clerical tasks (i.e. POs/check requests, in-kind, vendor, team follow-up calls, invoices), and increases understanding and awareness of AP Agencies programs and services through the development of positive relationships with businesses, community groups, individuals, and funding sources.
  7. Maintains and updates mailing lists, produces mailers, generates reports, and assists APF as necessary to ensure event information is up-to-date and disseminated on time (i.e. campaigns, program booklets, websites, social media content, flyers, forms, letters, etc.).
  8. Gathers grant application details through collaboration, research, and meetings.
  9. Prepares and submits grant applications on time and within guidelines.
  10. Oversees monitoring and evaluation of grant-funded programs.
  11. Manages grant files and related paperwork.
  12. Completes all required grant documents and reports.
  13. Participates in conferences, workshops, and trainings as needed or recommended for skill enhancement and personal growth.
  14. Follows AP policies, procedures, and department guidelines.
Key Relationships:May interact with community-based committees; board members; department directors, managers, supervisors, and staff; individuals receiving services from the agencies; external vendors; external media; technical/IT support providers; and community representatives.
