JOB SUMMARY:

The Construction Department Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the activities of the distribution team to ensure the scheduling and execution of engineered and non-engineered jobs are completed. This includes coordinating with other departments to ensure projects are completely ready for overhead and underground construction. Assist and fill in for the construction manager to help provide management and leadership to all people reporting to the operation department. The successful candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop work plans that involve field checking jobs for all jobs assigned to the construction department for construction, maintenance, and operation of the distribution system.
  • Schedules work and supervise all construction and maintenance personnel for overhead and underground lines.
  • Schedules, oversees, and inspects the work of Brightridge and business partner crews.
  • Organize and prioritize work orders.
  • Coordinate planned outages.
  • Ensures worker safety practices.
  • Works with fleet-only scheduling of planned maintenance of vehicles with construction schedules.
  • Performs as on-call supervisor as scheduled on a rotating basis; available for call-in whenever needed.
  • Plans and coordinates work with other utilities and business partners.
  • Plans, coordinates and reviews construction work to ensure maximum efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Provides supervision in the absence of the Construction Manager.
  • Acts as a liaison between engineers and construction crews for coordination.
  • Assist with the coordination of crews & business partners during power outages during and after hours.
  • Ensures the proper installation of any and all power line equipment.
  • Assist with on-going training, developing and annual evaluations for all employees.
  • Performs Tennessee One Calls and updates.
  • Maintains records and tracking of work orders in progress, and completion.
  • Provides assistance to the Service department when necessary.
  • Schedules all essential equipment needed on a daily basis and ensures proper operation of all equipment assigned to construction.
  • Ability to maintain reliable, predictable, and reasonable attendance.
  • Support and carry out the company's safety program.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
  • Must maintain a valid drivers' license from state of residence.
  • Must be available for after-hours work.
  • Maintain any vehicle assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Must have working knowledge of the electric utility industry and ability to perform line construction and maintenance.
  • Must be able to answer consumer inquiries and provide guidance concerning pending construction projects.
  • Must present a positive image for BrightRidge at all times.
  • Must know and be able to apply supervisory skills.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of all equipment and technical devices used in line construction.
  • Must have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with employees, customers, and the general public both orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to schedule and coordinate large construction projects efficiently, effectively, and safely.
  • Must be able to effectively use a networked computer and proficient in the latest version of Windows and Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to operate mobile data equipment such as an iPad.
  • Must have the ability to effectively coordinate multiple crews and multiple tasks in an efficient and safe manner.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Position requires constant vision and depth perception, frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, hearing, arm/hand, leg/foot, and simple grasp for machine control operation. Must be able to supervise the work of others in extreme weather conditions.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Approximately 80% of this position must be performed outside in varying weather conditions, which may require the ability to ambulate on uneven terrain. Exposure to vehicle traffic, general construction hazards and heavy equipment. The other 20% is performed in an indoor climate-controlled office environment with appropriate lighting.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Seven (7) years of experience in distribution line or engineering, or equivalent related experience, including good working knowledge of distribution operations and activities.
  • Prior experience in project management and/or in a leadership role is a plus.
