The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for providing direct nursing care to patients in the Obstetrics/Gynecology Clinic under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or other healthcare provider. This role involves implementing nursing services in accordance with the LPN scope of practice defined by the Illinois Board of Nursing.
- Under the guidance of a registered nurse, midlevel provider or physician, provide direct nursing care to patients based on provider orders and the nursing plan of care within the LPN scope of practice.
- Report patient response to care to the registered nurse or other provider for evaluation, intervention, and modification of the plan of care.
- Ensure accurate and complete documentation of patient care.
- Obtain detailed patient medical histories and collect telephone information for provider consultation.
- Perform basic wound care, dressing changes, notify patients of normal lab results and provide instructions for follow-up care.
- Administer medications and injections under the direction of the physician or advanced practice provider (APP).
