Job Summary:

This is a clinical position responsible for assessing and prescribing treatment for hearing disorders and providing a full range of diagnostic, preventative, consultative and rehabilitative audiology services to patients and families. This person would travel to Sandusky, Clyde, Norwalk

Essential Functions:

1. Provides cerumen management to prevent obstruction of external ear canal and of amplification devices.

2. Obtains case history and administers diagnostic tests to determine nature, degree and type of hearing problems.

3. Consults with patients on the nature of hearing loss and communicative problems. Develops individualized treatment programs. Conducts follow-up to determine patient progress. Modifies therapy program.

4. Interprets results and dictates reports for medical records. Consults with other medical professionals.

5. Plans and directs treatment programs to restore patient hearing. Works with other therapists.

6. Instructs patients and their families in rehabilitative procedures.

7. Develops new audiologist programs and services.

8. Performs hearing aid evaluations and dispenses hearing aids.

9. Checks, repairs, and sells batteries for hearing aids.

10. Makes referrals for further diagnostic evaluation and therapy and/or treatment. Trains and consults on environmental and interpersonal modifications to better facilitate receptive and expressive communication.

11. Supervises and provides clinical training (when appropriate) to interns, students, and technical staff

12. Maintains audiology equipment and calibration records. Helps select audiological equipment, orders hearing aids, and other supplies.

13. Plans daily schedules, maintains appointments and records fees for service.

14. Collects data and prepares reports. Maintains patient statistics.

15. Maintains unit in a clean and orderly manner. Keeps equipment in good working condition.

16. Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.

17. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.

18. Maintains patient confidentiality.

19. Performs related work as required.

Competencies:

1. Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.

2. Knowledge of testing and diagnostic equipment, disorders, and patient prognosis to establish a treatment plan.

3. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff, and the public.

4. Ability to present explanatory or interpretive information about the treatment program.

5. Ability to motivate patients to participate in treatment program.

6. Ability to apply written guidelines and work practices to make decisions and prepare recommendations regarding problems.

7. Ability to use speech therapy and sign language.

8. Ability to write reports and document patient's progress.

9. Ability to perform mathematical computations.

10. Ability to operate audiology equipment.

Education and Work Experience:

1. Graduation prior to January 01, 2006: Master's Degree in Audiology

2. Graduation after January 01, 2006: Doctor's Degree in Audiology

Certificates and Licenses Required:

1. Eligible for the Certificate of Clinical Competency in audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

2. State of Ohio License

Environmental/Working Conditions:

Frequent exposure to communicable diseases common to a clinic setting. Required to work quickly and accurately. Constant requirement for hearing within normal limits.

Physical/Mental Demands:

Occasionally required the full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires normal visual acuity.
