SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Please note: "*" denotes an essential function of the job

  • * Answers incoming calls and assist callers with their inquiries or requests.
  • * Greets the general public and any visitors to the Street Department in a pleasant and professional manner, providing any required assistance.
  • *Monitors radio communications and answer radio calls from employees and provide any needed information.
  • *Takes messages and forwards information to the appropriate party or department.
  • *Prepares employee timecards on a weekly basis.
  • *Maintains call in lists of numerous types of complaints or request from the public.
  • *Maintains gas cards issued and used by the workers daily.
  • *Operates a fax machine and copier as required.
  • Assists with opening, sorting, and distributing incoming mail and delivering it to staff daily..
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS:
  • This position requires working in the internal office environment.
  • This position may on occasion require a flexible work schedule; evening and/or weekend hours.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
  • Minimum of high school diploma required; some college preferred.
  • Knowledge of other City Departments and their functions and duties.
  • Familiarity with the City of New Albany and Street locations.
  • One to two years general office experience required.
  • Previous receptionist or customer services experience desired.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form.
  • A pleasant, friendly, and outgoing demeanor.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office products, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
  • Ability to handle a high volume of incoming calls while maintaining proper phone etiquette and a high level of professionalism at all times.
  • Willingness to take on additional tasks as assigned.
