Job Summary

**FIRST REVIEW OF APPLICATIONS AUGUST 5TH
The Environmental Specialist - Solid Waste conducts environmental monitoring of the landfill and recycling center to ensure the County remains in compliance with Federal, State, and local requirements. This position monitors and reports activities that have an environmental impact, including storm water samples, leachate detection, groundwater wells, gas well, land application and sedimentation ponds at the Rice County Landfill, Recycling Center and Hazardous Waste Facility. This position also performs activities relating to the collection, disposal and transport of hazardous waste; and conducts various educational activities relating to all waste management areas.
Examples of Duties

  • Conducts environmental monitoring activities at landfill and recycling center to ensure compliance with various environmental and permitting requirements.
  • Performs various activities relating to the household hazardous waste (HHW), and very small quantity generator business programs.
  • Conducts educational tasks relating to all waste management program areas.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum job requirements include a bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Water Resource Management, Natural Resource Management or related field, and one to three years of experience in a related field or equivalent A valid driver's license required.
Supplemental Information

HIRING RANGE / UNION: $29.21 - $30.60 per hour / GU - Grade10

HOURS: Full-Time, 40 Hours Per Week. Generally, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday. Will be required to work Saturdays 7:30 am - 11:30 am.
