Essential Functions
CITY OF HENDERSON, KENTUCKY
CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION
CLASSIFICATION TITLE: CUSTODIAL WORKER
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The purpose of this classification is to perform custodial work associated with the maintenance of department facilities and equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
•Sweeps, mops, strips, waxes, and buffs floors; cleans restrooms, windows, water fountains, tables, and related facilities/equipment; vacuums carpets; dusts furniture; washes walls; wipes down equipment; removes trash and recyclables.
•Cleans outside grounds; sweeps parking lot, picks up trash, weed plants, and blows debris from sidewalks.
•Performs a variety of routine maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, re-stocking coke machines, re-stocking paper/soap dispensers, and maintaining floor drain traps as needed.
•Performs varied grounds maintenance tasks; trims shrubbery, weeds plant beds, blows debris from sidewalks and outdoor courts; shovels snow; rakes leaves; and spreads salt and sand on sidewalks and driveways as needed.
•Sets up and takes down furniture and equipment as directed.
•Reports facility maintenance requirements to Facility Supervisor.
•Moves supplies and office equipment as directed.
•In Public Works, cleans and maintains Municipal Center and related facilities and equipment.
•In Parks & Recreation, cleans and maintains department facilities, including the community center, gymnasium, weight room, and related facilities and equipment.
•In Parks & Recreation, moves, cleans, and maintains weight room equipment as directed.
•In Parks & Recreation, paints doors, walls, and cabinetry in center.
•In Parks & Recreation, blows debris from outside courts, rakes leaves, and spreads salt and sand on sidewalk and driveways as needed.
•In Parks & Recreation, washes and hoses down sidewalks and picnic shelters.
•In Parks & Recreation, paints doors, walls, and cabinets in center.
•Maintains regular and predictable in person attendance during regular business hours of the City of Henderson is required.
•Must undergo and successfully complete drug test and alcohol screening prior to employment and undergo and successfully complete future drug test and/or alcohol screening pursuant to the City's Drug and Alcohol policy.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Performs other related duties as required, necessary, or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED preferred; previous experience in custodial/maintenance work preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Human Interaction: Requires the ability to exchange information for the purpose of clarifying details within well-established policies, procedures, and standards.
Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a variety of reference data and information.
Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change.
ADA COMPLIANCE
Physical Ability: Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability or perceive and discriminate odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, toxic agents, or pathogenic substances.
