Job Description

The Aviation Buyer purchases aviation related items, services, materials, equipment and/or supplies as requested by and in support of all lines of business within the company. Expedite orders through file closeout activities. Communicate with vendors and transportation companies to ensure items, services, materials, supplies, equipment and/or supplies ordered are shipped and delivered by required dates.

Maintain procurement files and records in accordance with company policy/procedures, prime contract requirements, FAR/DFAR. Prepares RFQs, analyze, evaluate and negotiate quotes with suppliers to include terms/conditions within scope and delegation of authority.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Review and audit approved purchase requisitions for compliance with contract requirements, company policy and procedure, FAR and DFAR.
  • Prepares source selection, issue RFQs, prepare price analysis, performs market research, determines price fair and reasonableness, recommends and selects suppliers for award.
  • Expedites purchases as needed to freight forwarders or project sites.
  • Conducts periodic market studies and analyses to build / enhance supplier base, manages information within vendor database and assists in supplier vetting/grading process.
  • Negotiates and settles with suppliers regarding damage claims, rejections, losses, return of materials, over shipments, cancellations and engineering changes.
  • Negotiations, file preparation, reconciles invoicing, purchase order, receiving and accounting discrepancies and prepares files for closeout.
  • Supports pricing for Business Development and Proposal activities, to include locating new vendors as required for the specific procurement effort.
  • Provides due diligence/vetting activities for new and existing vendors.
  • Other duties as required.
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience.
  • 4 years of experience with Aviation / Aerospace MRO procurement.
  • 2 years in a US Government purchasing environment.
  • Experience in procurement supporting projects at various remote sites.
  • Experience with FAR / DFAR.
  • Must have moderate to advanced expertise in procurement systems such as Pentagon 2000, MAXIMO, Costpoint, or similar.
Knowledge & Skills:
  • Moderate skill level working with Microsoft WORD & EXCEL
  • Excellent writing, organizational and communication skills, and ability to multi-task, set individual task by assigned priorities and work with minimal supervision
