About the Role We now have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer to work within the Diamond Insertion Device (ID) group. Synchrotron insertion devices are permanent magnet assemblies which lie at the heart of the Diamond facility, generating the brilliant light that is used in experiments. The ID group provides state-of-the-art Insertion Devices for Diamond. The Senior Mechanical Project Engineer will contribute to this by taking responsibility for all mechanical aspects of new and existingSynchrotronInsertion Devices, by achieving the delivery targets of new IDs and by maintaining the installed insertion devices. The key duties of the role include: Providing the mechanical design and associated specifications for the insertion devices, supports, chicane magnets, trim magnets and magnetic measuring devices which may be required. Producing design calculations to predict performance of designs prior to manufacture and where necessary perform or supervise FEA on critical areas. Negotiating, agreeing, and writing technical specifications. Producing and monitoring project management plans including Gantt charts, resource, and procurement plans. Interacting closely with scientific staff in support of Diamond accelerator, insertion device, front-end and beamline projects. Ensuring that Insertion Devices fully comply with Health and Safety law. About You The successful candidate should have a Masters’ degree level qualification in mechanical engineering, or demonstrate significant equivalent experience. You will have experience of: Mechanical engineering with significant design and assembly experience. Precision mechanism design. The specification, procurement, installation, and commissioning of engineering systems. Leading projects, completing specifications, and managing time, cost, and quality. Motion control systems. Working within a QA system. You will also display the ability to provide ideas, creativity and to bring rigorous analytical methods to bear on design problems.
