The primary focus of the Laboratory Technician position will be the collection of water samples from pre-selected locations in the drinking water distribution system for bacteriological testing and the collection of compliance samples from the distribution systems for trihalomethanes, haloacetic acids, lead and copper, and other sample sites that are designated by the State as an official sampling location.
Preferred software skills include Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Access.
The Laboratory Technician position requires familiarity of chemical principles, terminology, techniques, equipment, laboratory sampling collection and analysis pertaining to water and wastewater; Ability to document detailed information in sample collection. The Laboratory Technician must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and outside contacts.
Note:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of, and/or outside of, their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT :
Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in biology, chemistry or related field.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES :
Requires a driver's license and a driving record in compliance with the City Driving Standards .
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT :
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this position requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.
