Job Summary
Reporting to the President, the Controller will be responsible for managing all Accounting operations. The Controller will establish and supervise organizational Accounting practices to ensure accurate and reliable data and reporting.
Essential Functions
Plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates all accounting operational functions including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and General Ledger maintenance
Owns the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of monthly business results
Co-champions the budget process with the Director of Finance
Assesses current accounting operations, drives initiatives for improvement and implements new processes
Evaluates and drives improvements in cash management, ensuring financial obligations are met in accordance with Company policies and procedures
Evaluates accounting and internal control systems and proactively adjusts outdated controls
Overseeing regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance
Month-end closing, including preparation of certain schedules, account reconciliation reviews and journal entries
Owns treasury, regulatory tax compliance, and insurance with third parties (CPA firm, banks, etc.)
Assess and improve overall quality of month end close support to streamline the closing process
Manages internal and external audit requirements
Involved in significant company initiatives which may include reporting, acquisition, integration, system development and implementation of new processes or control enhancements in the financial area
Works collaboratively with cross functional departments to resolve issues, improve efficiencies, meet key objectives and ensure compliance, as required.
Lead quarterly inventory counts and assist in the maintenance/reconciliation of subledger and physical inventory balances
Streamline, maintain, and create standard operating procedures for accounting functions.
Train and mentor accounting staff as needed
Qualifications and Experience
Degree in Accounting/Finance or related field required
License or MBA requirement
High level of proficiency using Excel spreadsheets required including pivot tables & complex formulas such as VLOOKUP & SUMIF
Knowledge of ERP database software, Oracle a plus
English and Spanish a plus
Working knowledge of accounting practices in manufacturing or food industry, preferred
Minimum10 years of progressive accounting experience, management experience required
CPG or retail experience required
Physical Requirements
Most of the job functions are performed in an office setting requiring normal safety precautions, but the job will also require from time to time a visit to the production floor and warehouse.
