Job Description:

The Tax Accountant will support the Corporate Controller in managing the tax-related duties in the Finance & Accounting Department.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Working with outside tax consultants, assist in the preparation and filings of federal, state, and local income and property tax returns.
  • Responsible for preparation of monthly and quarterly tax provision workbook and related journal entries for the Bank, its parent and its subsidiary.
  • Continue to develop knowledge in tax matters in order to analyze financial transactions and to identify potential tax liabilities and opportunities for tax savings.
  • Work with outside tax consultants to monitor changes in federal, state and local tax laws and advise management on the implications of such changes.
  • Research any letters received from the IRS and work with relevant team members to resolve issues.
  • In conjunction with outside tax consultants, review, pay and file quarterly federal and state estimated income tax payments when due.
  • Responsible for assisting with the preparation of personal property and franchise tax returns, making payments and performing related accounting.
  • Responsible for year-end tax financial statement reporting with the assistance of a third party vendor.
  • Work with external auditors to collect information and ensure accuracy of financial statements related to tax items.
  • Manage the workflow of assigned projects to ensure timely completion.
  • Work with Corporate Controller on specials projects as requested.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Must have 2 plus years tax experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification or Masters preferred.
