The PGY2 Internal Medicine Residency at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is a 12-month full-time ASHP accredited postgraduate training experience based within the Wake Forest Baptist system. Building upon the competencies established during postgraduate year one, the program focuses on developing clinical, analytical, teaching and leadership skills as it relates to the internal medicine patient. The program is individualized for each resident based upon their goals, interests, and previous experience. Program design includes core internal medicine rotations that build upon one another and focus on different practice settings such as teaching services, hospitalist services, and community hospital setting. The program also has variety and flexibility for elective rotations and unique longitudinal experiences include pharmacy practice management and Population Health / Value-Based Care. Required rotations include Internal Medicine (5 months), Medicine Subspecialty (1 month; either cardiology or neurology) and Critical Care and/or Population Health (based on PGY1 experience). Elective rotations allow the opportunity for residents to tailor the year to their interests and include but are not limited to Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Solid Organ Transplant, Cardiology, Neurology, Hematology/Oncology, Ambulatory Care, Psychiatry, Critical Care, Pain Management/Palliative Care, Home Infusion, Behavioral Health/Psychiatry and Emergency Medicine. Experience in Population Health/Value-Based Care, Practice Management and Leadership, Quality Improvement and Committee Work, Code Response, and Research/Publication will be provided through longitudinal learning experiences. The resident will gain experience in academia through preceptorship of pharmacy students and residents, preceptor development, and didactic lectures. Requirements: Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited school, licensure in the state of North Carolina or eligible, and successful completion of an ASHP accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency.
