Responsibilities

  • Manage estimating resources, including the evaluation of project estimate requests and potential bid opportunities, delegation of work, backlog and project estimate reviews.
  • Oversees the creation of project estimates and reviews job cost data for profitability.
  • Ensure that bid selection criteria are met and a thorough takeoff and scope review is conducted to avoid any gaps.
  • Review all project estimates to ensure accuracy against plan reading, bid specifications, materials and labor and input into estimating software.
  • Establish estimating budgets for each project being bid and assign estimating resources to the project.
  • Review closed job financials to evaluate profitability.
  • Manage the development of the estimating staff by creating clear role definition, initiate specialization and ensure proper talent stratification.
  • Estimate or participate on project estimates including those of significant complexity and project cost.
  • Monitor material pricing fluctuations and communicate to the estimators as necessary.
  • Review all project requests and determine which project estimates the company will pursue while maintaining vendor and customer relationships.
  • Participate in management meetings
  • Establish and enhance estimating standards through process, procedure and software tools.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering or closely related field preferred
  • 15+ years working in a fast paced business environment relative to electrical estimating
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Working knowledge of Vista and Bluebeam
  • Knowledge of electrical equipment and construction materials
  • Ability to effectively negotiate and secure competitive pricing for the company
  • Ability to problem solve and generate viable solutions in a timely manner
  • Ability to collaborate with others both within and outside of immediate department/division
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Strong attention to detail including accuracy in entering data across various platforms and local documents
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to form recommendations based on findings
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
