Summary:
The Patient Safety Associate is responsible for performing direct observation and assistance with activities of daily living under the direction and supervision of a professional nurse. Provides a safe and therapeutic environment for the patient requiring direct observation. Assists with basic unit functions as directed by the professional nurse.
Responsibilities:
- 1. Ensures a safe, secure, and orderly patient environment.
o Maintains a direct line of sight and ability to intervene without any distractions of assigned patients at all times unless relieved by another staff member.
- Meets patients physical and psychosocial needs.
- Recognizes changes in patient conditions and reports changes to Registered Nurse.
- Completes observation tasks as assigned.
- Responds promptly to patient/family requests.
- Provides for patient comfort, safety, and satisfaction.
- If applicable documents patients activity every 15 minutes.
- Provides a report to the primary nurse and oncoming associate at the end of each shift.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living.
- 2. Performs duties in accordance with hospital policy and philosophy.
- Promotes and exhibits positive customer relations.
- Completes appropriate documentation on all observed patients.

- LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION

- Must successfully complete Patient Safety Associate (PSA), Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) trainings.
