Overview:

Provides leadership in clinical problem solving including managing critical & emergent situations that may be tense and/or dangerous, determining priorities and action plans.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  • As the clinical expert, lead to facilitate effective patient care delivery, and facilitate an environment that supports learning/utilizing mentorship and clinical supervision frameworks.
  • Lead, motivate and inspire the nursing team and improve staff retention. Acting as a facilitator and change agent. Enabling staff to embrace strategies for change, and enabling the team to develop the knowledge and skills to meet the changing needs of the department.
  • Receive patient assignment(s) as needed. Monitor the condition of patients under their charge, recognize changes in patient condition, implement appropriate interventions, continuity of care, and patient safety.
  • Deescalate potentially volatile situations involving patients or co-workers.
  • Delegate unit and patient responsibilities to nursing staff based on each staff members level of competence.
  • Report concerns about patient care, the work environment, or co-worker performance to management personnel in a timely fashion.
  • Educate nursing staff regarding the use of all equipment and supplies, safe patient handling techniques, safety procedures, and infection control.
  • Responds to complaints about patient care and manages through established channels.
  • Able to manage the change process-be responsible for identifying infection control issues and ensure that agreed standards and policies relating to infection control are implemented and audited.
  • Ensure that all staff have appropriate and adequate induction and attend mandatory training within accepted timeframe.
  • Maintain appropriate training records, identify and address the learning and development needs of individual team members through assisting in individual performance reviews. Monitor and recognize staff performance issues, manage and appraise accordingly.
  • Perform chart audits as outlined. Deliver and contribute to teaching/mentoring/coaching staff as required.
  • Make clinical and professional autonomous decisions on a daily basis, including providing advice to the multidisciplinary team, accept accountability for decisions relating to the management of care needs, staff and allocated resources for clinical activity.
  • Assist with the completion of the departments nursing schedule. Make judgements and decisions when workload in the department is unpredictable and influenced by both intrinsic and extrinsic factors such as bed availability, staffing levels, skill mix, and patient numbers.
  • Able to have an effective and productive time management and prioritizing workload considering competing demands and resources within an unpredictable environment. Addressing the equality and diversity needs of patients and staff.
  • May provide input for hiring, training, directing, developing, and evaluating staff.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Lead in the review of existing methods of nursing care via auditing to improve the patients experience and deliver agreed action plans to manage the change process.
  • Expert knowledge of best nursing practices in general and for specific populations, such as children, mentally ill, or the elderly.
  • Effective and professional communication techniques, including writing and speaking.
  • Personable and compassionate personality.
  • Excellent critical thinking and quick problem-solving skills.
  • Great organization, time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Leadership skills, like training, goal-setting and motivation.
  • In-depth understanding of hospital procedures and protocols.


Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred.

Experience:

  • 2 - 5 years of ER experience in an acute care setting is required, 2 plus years of ER/Charge nurse preferred.

Certification:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.

Licensure:

  • State of Florida Registered Nurse license required.

Training:

  • Proficient in EPIC EMR, Microsoft, and Excel
