HV Electrical Engineer

We are recruiting for a Project HV Electrical Engineer to join a team in the brownfield renewable development space; their aim is to repurpose and rehabilitate existing infrastructure or land that has been previously used for non-renewable purposes. The HV Electrical Engineer will be responsible for supporting the development, engineering and construction of the company’s brownfield renewable energy projects. You will be primarily responsible for supporting the conceptual and final project designs for the projects to be constructed.
Responsibilities
Electrical HV Engineering Support:
Support the development of detailed quality control checks for both physical and P&C designs, as well as electrical studies.
Support the development of electrical engineering studies including grounding protection, lighting protection, AC panel and station service sizing, DC panel and battery sizing, voltage drop, and CT saturation to maximize personnel safety, and equipment protection while considering cost.
Determine the feasibility of substation, gen-tie, and BESS layouts.
Aid in the preparation of interconnection applications, review of deliverables, and negotiation of technical points with interconnection utilities.
Coordinate with independent engineers and project partners to effectively navigate the technical due diligence process.
Conduct thorough design reviews of engineering deliverables: electrical including preliminary, 10% and 30% and IFC design.
Track design schedules and ensure that critical dates related to engineering tasks are met on time.
Procurement and Construction Support:
Assist in development and review of project-specific construction, engineering, and equipment specifications
Review competitive bids for owner procured equipment (transformers, BESS, and modules). Support the purchasing of this equipment and manage suppliers throughout the engineering and commissioning process
Monitor construction progress both remotely and via on-site inspections and support resolution of any field issues. Attend on-site meetings with construction contractors and in-person coordination meetings with interconnection utilities
Perform factory/equipment inspection and witness factory acceptance testing for major materials
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry technology (i.e., solar, storage, hydrogen, etc.)
Experience and Skills
BS in Electrical Engineering or related degree
Knowledge of power systems, ideally acquired through specific coursework, job experience, and internships
2-7 years of relevant work experience
Experience with HV/MV electrical infrastructure (substations/switchyards, transmission lines, transformers)
General knowledge of interpreting and applying common industry standards and codes
