**Only Active Duty Service Members eligible to participate in SkillBridge are qualified for this position***Detailed Job DescriptionAn internship with Superior Tube Products will provide you with opportunities to experience many aspects of engineering as you work on projects to help our production team create, develop, and optimize processes. You will be part of the Production Team as Engineering support to help drive standardization. Manufacturing Engineer: Opportunity to support productivity/continuous improvement methodologies at Superior Tube Products. As an intern, you will be responsible for supporting and enhancing our manufacturing processes to ensure safety, efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to the overall success of our manufacturing operations. Responsibilities for this internship include but are not limited to: 1)Cycle Time Observations: Categorize parts, time observations, sum of cycles, war on waste, and POU scores. This project will teach elements, takt time, cycle time, waste, teamwork, GSS routers/BOMs, and flow of production. Goal: Complete cycle time observations for 60% of parts from each flow and update the information in GSS.2)Material Handler Standard Work: Identify value added vs non-value-added work, categorize non-value-added work, collect data on time spent performing non-value added, eliminate, and create standards work for MH team to perform the non-value-added work. Goal: Completed standard work for all material handlers.3)Create and Improve Set up standards: Observe, research, take pictures, document, and organize set up processes and set up tooling. Create GSS home locations for all die sets. Work with Tooling to create a robust die inspection process. Make recommendations for tooling expenditures to replace/have tool backups. Goal: All die sets have GSS scannable home locations.Length of Training: Minimum 60 days to 120 days maximum Week 1: New hire orientation will be required in the first week which includes safety basics for being on the production floor and job specific safety, meeting team that they will be supporting through the above projects and the Manufacturing Engineer that will be responsible for training over the internship period. The new hire orientation will also include defining company culture, expectations, and policies that are necessary to be successful at Superior Tube Products. Training Objective 1: Intern fully understands his/her role in the company and is familiar with what his/her responsibilities will be as well as expectations for performance. Intern will understand the safety expectations and importance of valuing safety and knowing when to stop an action for unsafe conditions or behaviors. Week 2-6: During this period, the intern will be paired with Superior Tube Products Manufacturing Engineer to learn how to perform cycle time observations and time studies. The training will consist of learning the following topics: categorizing parts, sum of cycles, war on waste, and POU scores. This will also include observing the Manufacturing Engineer performing cycle times observations and time studies, leading a cycle time observation/s and time study/ies with the Manufacturing Engineer overseeing, and then receiving feedback on performance and areas of opportunities. The intern will also learn Lean Manufacturing practices through Lean Basics training provided by Training Facilitator. This will include 5S, auditing, waste, and value vs non-value-added tasks. Training Objective 2: Intern will understand the process of how to complete a cycle time observation and time study. This will include recording information at the work cell as well as editing information electronically. Furthermore, the intern will understand how to analyze the data and suggest improvements to the team. Assessment The goal of this project is to complete cycle time observations for 60% of parts from each flow and update the information in GSS. The intern will be measured through a standardized evaluation of their progress towards their goal. Training Objective 3: Intern will understand the basics of lean manufacturing to include how to identify waste, value added or non-value added tasks, how to suggest improvements, and find solutions. Week 7-11: During this period, the intern will be paired with the Materials Coordinator and Manufacturing Engineer to assist in creating standard work. During this time, the intern will use concepts learned in Week 2-4 and apply them to creating standard work for the Materials Team. The intern will observe the Manufacturing Engineer creating standard work, leading a standard work project with Manufacturing Engineer observing, and then receiving feedback on performance and areas of opportunities. Upon successful completion of standard work, the intern will be responsible for creating a certain number of standard work documents on their own for the Materials Team. The intern will also interact with the Materials Coordinator to understand certain processes and to get a priority list of standard work that needs to be created. Assessment The goal of this project is to complete standard work for all material handlers. The intern will be measured through a standardized evaluation of their progress towards their goal. Training Objective 4: Intern will understand how to identify value added vs non-value-added work and create standard work that helps eliminate non-value-added work. Week 12-16 During this period, the intern will be paired with the Manufacturing Engineer, Tooling Team, and Setup Team to create and improve setup standards. The intern will observe, research, take pictures, document, and organize set up processes and set up tooling. The intern will learn how to use Global Shop Solutions (GSS) to create home locations for die sets and work with the Tooling Team to create an inspection process for the die sets. Training Objective 5: The intern will learn basic function in GSS (ERP system) and how to enter home locations and assign them to die sets. The intern will understand basic set up flow and how die sets/tooling are used in the production process. AssessmentThe goal of this project is for all die sets to have GSS scannable home locations. The intern will be measured through a standardized evaluation of their progress to their goal. Week 17-18 During this time the intern will spend time with the Manufacturing Engineer to complete any open projects and/or turnover projects that are in process. Evaluation of performance of the intern and overall impact of the projects accomplished. The intern will also meet with Human Resources on potential job offers or assisting them in a job search for companies in the area that would align with the knowledge that they have gained during this period.
