POSITION SUMMARY:

This position will coordinate, evaluate, and teach ASL classes for the TLC community. We also offer a range of community-based services that benefit deaf and hard of hearing children, adults, and their families. This position aims to build a robust, in-house ASL class program. Community ASL classes are among our many avenues in reducing systemic barriers to serving our own and other deaf students, families, and staff in a fully linguistically accessible, culturally competent manner. Successful implantation of this work should produce an increased value in the perspectives, identities, communication, and contribution of ASL and Deaf Culture, and strengthen the impact of ASL acquisition to counter language deprivation among deaf and hard of hearing children in our communities.

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage class instructors and their assignments in a timely manner by using the scheduling platform.

Work closely with the TLC Advancement Office marketing and communications needs.

Provide Assessments, Ratings, and Observations, including Community, Families, or Staff, in addition to identifying support ASL needs and any additional requests..

Provide Assessments, Ratings, and Observations

Collaborate with The Learning Center Equity and Inclusion Office to coordinate screening, mentoring, tutoring, internship, and additional support to improve language use.

Participate in collaborative initiatives to enhance language development and training within TLC and through external partnerships.

Attend In-Service and staff development activities, as appropriate.

Teach ASL classes at least 50% of scheduled hours.

Perform other tasks as assigned by the Department Supervisor.
