The Washington State Ferry (WSF) system is essential to Washington's transportation network, linking communities on both sides of Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands. There are over 400 sailings each day on 10 ferry routes.

WSF transports nearly 17 million passengers a year and has more than 1,800 employees. Employees perform a variety of duties on vessels, in terminals, at the maintenance facility, and at the Seattle headquarters.

The Opportunity WSDOT is currently seeking a Transportation Engineer 2 to prepare, process, and archive work order authorization packages for the Terminal Engineering Program Development and Delivery Manager. This position ensures that action requests on the work orders are properly documented. This position also includes monitoring, maintaining, and updating project information in the Capital Program Management System, or its equivalent, (TEIS), and other Transportation Capital Programs related to project scope, schedule, cost estimates, and expenditure aging to ensure that all data is accurate and up-to-date based on information from various sources.

What to Expect Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you/the Transportation Engineer 2 will: Prepare, process, and archive work order authorization packages. Prepare and process WSF Change Management to ensure projects are adequately funded and project changes are documented. Monitor, maintain, and update project information in the Capital Program Management System or its equivalent and other Transportation Capital Programs. Prepare correspondence as directed relating to project scope, estimates, and scheduling information.

Qualifications To be considered for this opportunity, the following are

required : Two (2) years of experience as a Transportation Engineer 1, Transportation Technician 3, Bridge Engineer 1 or equivalent. OR Certification as an Engineer-In-Training

and

one (1) year of experience as a Transportation Engineer 1, Transportation Technician 3. Bridge Engineer 1 or equivalent. OR Master’s degree with a major study in civil engineering, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, soil mechanics, traffic, transportation, or a closely related field. And Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills (speech, listening, and writing), since much of the job is obtaining information from others within and outside the office and relaying this information to others in all forums. Demonstrated excellent organizational skills and is able to coordinate work with internal and external office personnel It is

preferred

that qualified candidates also have: Advanced working knowledge of Transportation Capital Programs, CPMS, TEIS, TRAINS, FRIS, and Cognos.

Important Notes This position offers flexible/hybrid remote work options. The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County. An additional general wage increase of 3% will be applied for all state employees on July 1, 2024. In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.
