Permanent/Fixed Term Title: Real Estate Property Accountant Reports To: Accounting Manager & Head of Accounting Category: Accounting I. Summary of the Position: NYC private real estate management company seeking an accountant with retail, commercial, and residential experience. The accountant will be in charge of their own real estate entities and will be responsible for recording, maintaining, and reconciling financial data. The accountant should be familiar with income tax basis accounting with both cash and accrual principles. A number of related tasks are also included in this role. II. Job Responsibilities: • Review the accuracy of the bank balances shown in the general ledger. • Ensure that the monthly bank statements are reconciled with the Company’s internal records in a timely fashion. • Follow-up with the bank, A/P, or A/R if there are discrepancies between the bank statement and the internal records. • Prepare the corresponding journal entries related to bank-initiated transactions and present them for approval. • File monthly reconciliation worksheets, statements, and all backup documentation. • Book portfolio income from brokerage statements • Prepare P&L reports for various tasks related to monthly operating and real estate tax filings • Prepare various reports for NY filings including RPIEs & annual rent registrations • Inform manager of any outstanding items prior to the close of the month. • Prepare accurate financial reports III. Hiring Specifications: • 3+ years relevant accounting experience in the Real estate industry. • An undergraduate degree in Accounting • Yardi accounting system a must • Familiarity with a wide range of financial transactions including accounts payable and accounts receivable. • Computer skills: MS Word and Excel, V-lookup and Pivot table experience a plus • Knowledge and understanding of property accounting. Excellent data entry skills. • The highest level of and focus on integrity and professionalism, and a strong work ethic; detail-oriented who focuses on implementation and follow-through. • A neat, organized, fast-checking individual that has attention to detail and accuracy. • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
