Job Summary

The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing blood draws, specimen collection, and preparation while ensuring patient comfort and maintaining high-quality standards in specimen handling.

This role requires technical expertise and excellent interpersonal skills to effectively work with patients across various demographics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform blood draws, labeling, and specimen preparation following established procedures.
  • Clearly explain venipuncture or other specimen collection processes to patients.
  • Utilize proper techniques with both straight and butterfly needles.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes and label them accurately.
  • Centrifuge, split, and store specimens according to test requirements.
  • Package specimens for transport, ensuring compliance with temperature and handling guidelines to preserve specimen integrity.
  • Follow OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department training.
  • Respond to phone inquiries and relay laboratory results as appropriate.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience with phlebotomy, specimen handling, and laboratory protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Previous experience in a clinical or laboratory setting.
