Job Title: Driver, Backhaul
Location: McDonough, GA
Overview:
Incumbent is responsible for transporting and delivering freight from third-party supplier locations to NDCP warehouses safely, legally and on-time. This position requires working in environments with variation in temperature and humidity (e.g., dry, cooler and freezer areas of the trailer, along with changing outdoor weather conditions.)
Compensation:
- Local - $29.67/hour with 4am-6am start time
- Longhaul - $0.58 mileage rate with start time 2am - 4am
- 1 to 2 layovers per week
- Layover pay
- Per Diem

Responsibilities:Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Safely operates a tractor trailer truck that transports product to and from specified destinations.
- Conduct a proper pre-trip inspection to ensure the vehicle is safe to operate.
- Ensures delivery-related paperwork is in order before departing the Distribution Center or transportation hub.
- Prepares, receives and provides appropriate documentation for the delivery of products.
- Assists with the loading of trailer at supplier locations.
- Detaches loaded trailer and picks up empty trailers in a safe manner into store locations.
- Maintains proper logs of travel and product according to Federal, State and DOT regulations.
- Maintains contact with Member Services / applicable operations transportation personnel to communicate any delivery problems or delays.
- Ensures the cleanliness and presentation of the interior of the truck cab.
- Conducts a proper post-trip inspection to ensure equipment is in good working order to minimize delays the following day.
- Timely reports any vehicle maintenance or malfunction issues to the appropriate Transportation Supervisor.
- Utilizes a high level of customer service in serving as the primary NDCP point of contact between the Distribution Center and the supplier.
Supervision Exercised
No direct supervisory responsibilities but may direct a Delivery Assistant assigned to the route.
Qualifications:Qualifications & Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent experience preferred
- Current Class A CDL and Medical card required
- Minimum of six (6) months Class A CDL driving experience. Experience driving in the food industry is highly preferred
- Clean motor vehicle record (MVR) in accordance with NDCPs hiring requirements
- Ability and willingness to operate a manual and automatic transmission tractor
- Ability to safely operate a refrigeration unit and a lift gate
- On Board Computer/Electronic Log System experience preferred
- Ability to read a map and/or follow written directions to navigate assigned routes efficiently and safely
- Demonstrated knowledge of DOT regulations and Commercial Motor Vehicle requirements
- Excellent interpersonal skills and exceptional customer service mentality
- Ability to work effectively in an individual and team environment
- Effective decision-making skills and sound judgement
- Ability and willingness to work varying work schedules, as needed, to support NDCPs operations
