Job Title: Intake Specialist Job Specialty: N/A Job Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days 5x8 Hr Guaranteed Hours: 40 per week Experience: Two (2) years of customer service and/or clerical experience License: N/A Certifications: N/A Must-Have: High School Diploma or GED; Preferred experience in healthcare setting with exposure to patient registration, scheduling, or insurance authorization processes Job Description: - Responsible for collecting accurate demographic, financial, and medical information from patients requiring healthcare services in a confidential manner.- Acts as the focal point for all initial communications during registration, ensuring professionalism and courtesy.- Completes insurance verification and documents upfront collections before the date of service for scheduled and pre-registered accounts.- Obtains approval (pre-authorization/prior-approval) for scheduled and pre-registered accounts.- Pre-registers patients by phone or form, as required or requested.- Schedules all new and follow-up patient appointments and communicates cancellations while attempting to reschedule when possible.- Maintains inventory of clinical and office supplies, ordering within budget when assigned (Outpatient Rehab only).- Verifies key ADT information is current and accurate to ensure patient safety, charging, coding, insurance processing, and billing accuracy.- Completes and documents all governmental, regulatory, financial, and contractual forms; ensures documents are scanned/saved to the correct location and are legible.- Meets departmental targets for registration wait times and upfront collections, including deposits, estimated amounts due, co-pays, and/or prior balances.- Demonstrates a caring, positive, professional, and helpful demeanor with all customer interactions.- Encourages a positive work environment by being self-motivated, communicative, and cooperative with coworkers.- Actively participates in departmental quality assurance by utilizing system work queues and striving to minimize errors.- Effectively precepts and supports new coworkers as assigned. Skills and Abilities: - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.- Proficiency in basic mathematical skills such as counting money, making change, and using a credit card and adding machine.- Capability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in various forms.- Ability to solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations and to define problems, collect information, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.- Ability to develop independent solutions.
