About the job Senior Accountant
Position Overview:The Senior Accountant will play a crucial role in managing financial activities and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting for our farming operations. This position requires a strong accounting background, exceptional attention to detail, and previous experience in the agricultural or farming industry. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of farming operations, cost accounting principles, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting for farming activities.
- Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and variance reports for farming operations.
- Perform cost accounting activities, including tracking and analyzing production costs, inventory valuation, and crop yields.
- Collaborate with farm managers and agronomists to develop and maintain cost allocation methodologies, budgeting processes, and performance metrics.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, tax laws, and internal controls related to farming operations.
- Conduct internal audits and reviews of farming processes and controls to identify areas for improvement and mitigate risks.
- Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making and operational planning for farming activities.
- Assist in the implementation of accounting systems, tools, and processes to streamline operations and enhance efficiency.
- Train and mentor junior accounting staff on accounting principles, farming operations, and industry best practices.
- Stay informed about industry trends, market dynamics, and emerging technologies in agriculture and farming.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA designation preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a focus on agricultural or farming operations.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting standards (GAAP), and cost accounting methodologies.
- Experience working with farming software and ERP systems (e.g., AgriSight, Granular, FarmLogs) preferred.
- Knowledge of agricultural regulations, tax incentives, and government programs related to farming operations.
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, with a focus on accuracy and quality.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
