The Center for Indigenous Health (Center) is located within the Department of International Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The core activities housed at the Center include research studies of infectious diseases and behavioral health, and a training program. The goals of the Center projects include evaluating the impact and efficacy of research projects aimed at improving health outcomes for and with Native American families and communities.

We are seeking aResearch Program Supervisorwho will be responsible for study site activation and management, including regulatory review, site study team training, data monitoring and integrity management, participant enrollment, and overall project timeline management. This requires a high level of knowledge, oversight and organization, and will serve as a central resource for faculty and staff conducting research. The Research Program Supervisor also has supervisory responsibilities of two or more Research Program Assistants and/or Research Assistants.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the conduct of research and service program protocols, including study site selection and activation, participant enrollment, electronic case report form design, specimen shipping, data monitoring, safety review, and other protocol-related tasks.
  • Assist with protocol development and revision of studies: assure protocols, amendments, consent forms, and study operation manuals have complete, consistent language throughout, including proper SAE reporting requirements, coordinating center requirements, etc.
  • Track each study through local regulatory review and contract execution process, evaluate for recurrent problems, development and implement systems to decrease delay in site activation process.
  • Collect and review regulatory documents from participating sites prior to study activation, conduct study start-up meetings, maintain communication with sites to ensure high quality of data, timely submission of data, and adherence to guidelines.
  • Review subject eligibility and enrollment documentation.
  • Conduct on-site training and monitoring visits as needed.
  • Facilitate the full cycle of the protocol approval process - development, submission, contract negotiation, budget development, interaction with community stakeholders.
  • Assist PI with abstracts and manuscripts preparation.
  • When needed, recruit, train, and supervise entry-level research data management and regulatory personnel within the program, such as Research Program Assistants and Research Assistants.
  • Assist faculty members with program operations - providing suggestions for improved procedures, creating checklists and program-related Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Assists with study budget and invoice preparation as needed.
  • Participate as requested in Center events such as training and orientation for new research staff.
  • Complete minimum requirements for continuing education units. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of and comply with Good Clinical Practice, and all required trainings.
  • Ensure that Center policies, Standard Operating Procedures, and guidelines related to the conduct of research studies are followed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of documents and files.
  • Work on special projects and miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Experience working with Indigenous or Tribal communities.
  • Commitment to cultural safety within the worksite.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of business with working knowledge of supporting strategic planning and business processes.
  • Analytical and written/oral communication skills required (including the facilitation of discussions with senior leaders and stakeholders).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to problem-solve creatively and analyze processes/systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and tactful interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment and with external stakeholders.
  • Very strong organizational skills and ability to work on several tasks simultaneously and meet time sensitive deadlines.
  • Individual must be able to work independently, under minimal supervision with strong decision-making skills and good judgment.

  • Current driver's license issued by the state of residence and good driving record required.
  • Ability to travel with overnight stays required as needed. Some evening, weekend and holiday work may be required.
  • This position will maintain background clearance as required by the employer and any collaborating agencies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Two years related experience, with some supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Starting Salary Range: $19.50 - $35.00 HRLY ($53,138 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
