Salary Scale: $32.00-$43.79. Based on experience.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Coordinates comprehensive hospital wide infection preventionand control program in accordance with current requirements of regulatory,government, and accrediting/licensing agencies and organizational policies andprocedures. Responsible for maintaining and coordinating the Employee Healthprogram for the hospital.

POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develops and maintains an infection surveillance, prevention, and control program based on the organization's risk assessment and other needs and in accordance with state, federal, and other reporting requirements
  • Administers immunizations/vaccinations to employees as indicated or recommended by CDC guidelines
  • Assures staff completion of and maintains records of pre-employment health exams, reassessment health exams, TB testing, and required immunizations and vaccinations
  • Manages work-related post-exposure follow-up of employees
  • Collaborates with Human Resources to:
    • manage and provide clinical support for the workers compensation program, including first report of injury, providing employees with pertinent information, collaborating with the work comp carrier and employee, maintaining employee work comp files, communication with employee's direct report on work comp case, tracks claims billing statements, reconciles claim payments, and help assist with any outstanding information the work comp carrier may need to process claims
    • Plan, development, implement, maintain, and evaluate Employee Health programs
    • Perform employee health exams and TB testing on new hires and current employees
  • Maintains current information from OSHA, CDC, State and Federal regulations, Life Safety regulations
  • Maintains log and OSHA log of work-related employee injuries
  • Responsible for planning and implementing the annual employee influenza vaccination campaign and annual N-95 fit testing including establishing schedule times/clinics for vaccinations and testing. Coordinates training of staff to perform N-95 fit testing
  • Collects, manages, and analyzes surveillance data using standardized methodology and defined criteria for an HAI
  • Participates in data collection, analysis, corrective action planning, and management in regard to employee injuries, employee illnesses, general employee health, and work-related injuries or illnesses
  • Prepares and presents employee health related data/reports on a regular basis for Infection Control Committee, Safety Committee, and Board of Trustees
  • Organizes and maintains surveillance data and records
  • Reports surveillance data, findings, and analyses to the appropriate committees, patient care units, personnel, and external agencies
  • Monitors patients for the occurrence of communicable diseases, HAIs, and resistant and epidemiologically important organisms
  • Monitors infectious diseases and epidemiologically significant organisms occurring in the community via laboratory reports and public health reports
  • Identifies and evaluates cultures of infections and potential outbreaks and institutes an outbreak investigation and control measures, as needed
  • Recommends isolation precautions according to organization's policies and procedures
  • Develops and maintains infection prevention and control policies and protocols in accordance with requirements of regulatory, government, and accrediting/licensing agencies and recommendations of relevant professional organizations
  • Assists the organization to evaluate and maintain readiness for state and accrediting agencies surveys
  • Monitors and evaluates the efficacy of infection prevention and control strategies
  • Collaborates with all departments of the facility to design and implement strategies to prevent HAIs and transmission of multidrug-resistant organisms and other epidemiologically important organisms
  • Investigates exposures to communicable diseases and initiates appropriate measures to prevent the transmission of disease
  • Provides consultation services relating to infection prevention and control to the various departments of the organization
  • Evaluates products, devices, and equipment as relating to infection prevention and control
  • Actively participates in performance improvement activities
  • Communicates with local and state health departments
  • Conducts education on infection control and employee health related topics and procedures as needed
  • Develops or obtains educational materials and programs, as needed, for personnel, patients, and visitors
  • Works with facilities management and other personnel to evaluate infection risks associated with renovation and construction projects and to identify control measures
  • Organizes and leads the Infection Control Committee; participates as an active member of the Safety Committee
  • Organizes and participates in monthly Safety Rounds
  • Participates as an active member of the the Nursing Administration Committee and other committees as needed
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Unrestricted Iowa RN license in good standing
  • 2 years experience in clinical/patient care services or relevant health care position
  • Infection Control and/or Occupational Health/Employee Health experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Health Care Related preferred
  • CIC certification preferred. Ability to take certification examination after 3 years or less of employment required
  • Knowledge and experience in areas of patient care practices, microbiology, asepsis, disinfection and sterilization, adult education, infectious diseases, statistics, epidemiology, communication, and program administration
  • Self-motivated, organized, and detail oriented
  • Able to organize and manage time and multiple tasks
  • Computer literacy including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
EQUIPMENT/TOOLS:
  • Operate office equipment such as computers, printers, copy machine, calculator, facsimile, and scanners
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Sitting at a desk for extended periods of time while working on a computer
  • Frequently and on a daily basis will walk throughout whole facility and to various departments to perform job duties
  • Frequent standing when out of office
  • Involves some contact with patients
  • Interaction with others is frequent and interruptive
  • Hours may vary depending on departmental staffing needs or in the event of an exposure/outbreak situation
