Fraud Analyst- South Burlington, VT:

Vermont Federal Credit Union is recruiting for a Fraud Analyst out of our Kennedy Drive Location.

The fraud analyst is responsible for performing a variety of duties to support the security, compliance, and fraud functions, maintaining and updating policies/procedures as necessary, coordinating work with other departments, complying with policies, standards and procedures established for the compliance/fraud functions, reporting pertinent information to immediate supervisor, and responding to inquiries or requests for information.

Job Description:

  • Reviews and analyses system generated reports and alerts for suspicious activity and conducts member account research, review and monitoring. This would include new accounts, new loans, ATM, wire and ACH transfers, online banking transactions and, credit card and debit card activity to assess levels of risk and identify fraudulent activity.
  • Reaches out to members who are potential fraud victims to verify transactions. Works with branches to assist customers with ID theft claims. Ensures proper reporting is completed per the credit union's ID Theft/Red Flags Programs. Works with card services on fraudulent debit and credit card transactions.
  • Responds to law enforcement agency inquiries regarding fraudulent or criminal matters. Acts as a liaison with law enforcement (federal, state and local) and social service agencies by providing detailed information, attend court hearings as needed and pursue prosecution/restitution as appropriate. Prepares and responds to incoming subpoenas and search warrants from law enforcement agencies. Conducts investigations into fraud cases, reviews security reports, surveillance systems, loss portfolio trends and other data as needed.
  • Deliver outstanding service that is in alignment with the Credit Union's Service Promises.
  • Works with multiple fraud tools and may contribute to the testing and establishment of new fraud tools and associated reporting.
  • Participates in VFCU Fraud Committee and Fraud Response Task Force meetings.
  • Participates on behalf of Risk and Compliance in various external fraud-related meetings and/or conventions including Association of Vermont Credit Unions (AVCU), Vermont Financial Abuse Specialist Team (FAST), and NCUA fraud summits.
  • Drafts fraud activity reporting and summaries for senior management and the Board.
Requirements:
  • Three to 5 years of similar or related banking / financial institution experience.
  • Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation. Comfortable having uncomfortable conversations with Members.
  • A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required.
  • Interest in the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) or Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Specialist (BSACS) designations is a plus.
  • Equivalent to a high school education.
