Job Description:

Performs venipuncture and lab processing including completing requisitions and preparation for lab delivery. Performs basic laboratory tests for research (urine pregnancy tests, HbA1c, hemoglobin, plasma glucose and other lab tests done in the UF CRC core lab). Reviews all lab requisitions before they are sent out to labs, organizing and maintaining existing lab forms, scanning and data entry of lab results, etc. Performs quality assurance tests on CLIA waived laboratory tests. Organizes and prepares research specimens for packing and shipping.

Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording patient demographics, allergies; confirming purpose of visit. Performs study required visit activities; taking blood pressure, pulse, height, weight, and temperature; documenting patient data following GoodClinicalPractice guidelines. Assistance with standard research tests such as electrocardiograms, walk tests, exercise tests and other procedures. Prevents patient injury and responds to patient emergencies. Provides patient information and instructions. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality at all times. Notifies providers of pertinent patient information and follow-up. Cross train for assessments of vital signs.

Assists in organization and preparation of CRC and clinic exam rooms, including tray set-up, cleaning and stocking supplies. Communicates inventory and equipment needs to assigned staff. Pulls out patients' charts for upcoming visits and verifies orders and worksheets. Assists in clinic management including keeping patient areas clean and safe and facilitates effective management of patient visit time.

Expected Salary:
$15.00-$20.00 per hour commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a phlebotomy course; or a high school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Vocational/technical training from a medical assistant or phlebotomy program is preferred.

Experience working in a research environment.

IATA shipping certification

Must be able to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, or unusual situations.

Must be capable of dealing with periodic cyclical workload pressures and levels of responsibility.

Required to make independent judgments without supervision. Must be able to make generalizations, evaluations, or decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria.

Must have the adaptability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.

Requires the ability to work with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.

Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain a productive and positive atmosphere of teamwork among the members of a program department staff.

Able to work with people from diverse ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic and sexual preference backgrounds
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

Ability to take vital signs (e.g. TPR, Blood Pressure, visual acuity, peak flow meters, height and weight). Ability to interact with patients.

Skills in basic math.

Skills to perform CPR.

Skills to maintain patient care equipment in operative order
