Job Summary:
The Accounting Assistant/Manager will provide essential support to the accounting department by performing a variety of daily accounting, bookkeeping, and financial tasks. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, excellent organizational skills, leadership abilities, and the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of financial records, reports, and statements.
- Perform daily bookkeeping tasks including data entry, recording transactions, and managing accounts payable and receivables.
- Reconcile bank statements and ensure accuracy in financial records.
- Process payroll, including calculating hours, verifying employee data, and preparing payroll reports.
- Assist with the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
- Prepare and process invoices, bills, and other financial documents.
- Assist in the preparation of tax documents and other regulatory filings.
- Respond to and resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Maintain a well-organized filing system for financial records.
- Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager.
- Make collection calls to clients that are past due.
- Review and process weekly billing for VA, Insurance, and all other clients.
- Research VA rejections or short payments and resubmit as necessary.
- Follow up with insurance companies to ensure we have all information for billing.
- Processing of new hires documentation (Direct deposit, I9 etc. ).
- Associates degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Bachelor's or Master's degree preferred).
- Proven experience as an accounting assistant, bookkeeper, or similar role.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks and Google Office Suite (particularly Google Sheets).
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and procedures.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of non-medical home care industry practices and regulations is a plus.
