SUMMARY: Working under supervision of the WIC Clinic Director, the Certified WIC Nutrition Technician (CWNT) will provide clinical and nutrition services including counseling, education, and nutritional assessment. The CWNT is responsible for certifying individuals for WIC eligibility, issuing breasts pumps and teaching nutrition classes.

The CWNT will understand and model the mission of NSO. The CWNT will understand and practice NSO's policy on confidentiality in respect to all NSO information. The CWNT will exhibit professional behavior in all facets of work at NSO. The CWNT will exhibit teamwork with all NSO staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Ability to effectively communicate in English and Spanish orally and in writing. Complete certification, midpoint wellness checks, and follow up appointments. Review and/or complete client WIC Nutrition/Health Assessment forms. Check for completeness and accuracy. Provide clinical services including obtaining weight, height, and blood specimen for analysis of hemoglobin level. Accurately document the results in PHOCIS software in a timely manner according to policy. Interview clients, take diet histories, assess nutritional needs, diet restrictions and current health plans for pregnant, post-partum and breastfeeding women, infants and children. Provide nutrition counseling to individuals and groups on basic rules of good nutrition, healthy eating habits and nutrition monitoring to improve quality of life. Make referrals to other health professionals and programs. Maintain WIC records, reports, and files. Prepare online WIC applications received by printing, verifying proofs, and making them pending in database. Conduct general nutrition education classes for participants, with an emphasis on nutrition for pregnant, post-partum and breastfeeding women, infants, and children. Offer basic breastfeeding education, issue breast pumps and maintain / update WIC breast pump inventory. Attend OSDH meetings, NSO meeting and trainings as requested. Assist clerical staff in answering phones, scheduling appointments, and issuing benefits. Attend outreach activities, as requested by director. Assist in training of new CWNT and Clerical staff. Pass New WIC CPA Training and Competency with State WIC Program Consultant (WPC) within 6 months of hire Ensure HIPPA compliance 100% of the time. Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to director and/or Chief Executive Officer. Maintain consistent feedback to the WIC Clinic Director regarding all major areas of clinic functioning. Comply with all NSO policies and procedures set forth in the NSO handbook. Monitor biohazard materials and biohazard pick up schedule. Other duties as may be assigned by supervisors.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Requirement: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. Must have successfully completed the OSDH curriculum and have received an OSDH WIC CPA competency certificate. Experience in customer service required. Must have a valid driver's license and auto insurance. Clearance of background check and drug screen.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED Must be dependable, have strong communication skills, be well organized, have the ability to prioritize and be able to work under pressure. Must maintain a high degree of confidentiality. Must maintain good relationships with Nutritionists, CWNTs, Clerks, Breastfeeding Peer Counselors, and other health care employees. Must be detail oriented and have proven track record for accuracy. Requires knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures. This includes basic to intermediate personal computer skills, such as word processing, database management, electronic mail, spreadsheet, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS Majority of time spent in this position is in a well-lighted, heated and air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation. This job requires moderate physical activity performing in a primarily administrative nature. Occasional periods of high stress. Regular work schedule is 7:45a.m. to 4:30 p.m. including a 45-minute lunch.
