Record Retention Specialist

PAY GRADE:

12 Month/Grade 70 ($3488/month - $4864/month, based on experience)

REPORTS TO:

Executive Director of Communication

JOB GOAL:

The Record Retention Specialist will serve as the person who ensures records are maintained and processed in compliance with North Carolina General Statutes and Johnston County School Board Policies. This position works with the Public Records Coordinator to process and store records for Johnston County Public Schools.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate degree in Administrative Services, Business, or a related field required; supplemented by at least one year of experience in providing administrative support.
Experience in local government or clerical work, preferred.
Experience in records management, specifically in relation to NC Public Records Law, preferred.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to navigate electronic record management systems.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive information.
Knowledge of document management practices.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Excellent customer service skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in the storage, retrieval, tracking and filing of active and inactive records.
Assist with the Monitor and maintain compliance with laws and regulations related to public records.
Respond to public information requests, coordinate the retrieval of information and address questions as necessary.
Maintain a comprehensive records retention program.
Create and maintain a record archival systems
Perform administrative duties as needed.
Active participant in JCPS Communication Team
Other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to stand for long periods of time and carry audio/visual equipment.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms.
Ability to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence.
Ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess a valid NC driver's license.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, teachers, students, administrators, community leaders, agency representatives and others.
