Under the general direction of the Neurodiagnostic Manager, performs electroneurodiagnostic testing in Nerve Conductions, Electroencephalograms and Evoked Potentials. The technologist must show competencies in Electroencephalograms, and two additional modalities (Long term EEG, Ambulatory EEG, Nerve Conduction Studies, Evoked Potentials and/or Intraoperative Brain Mapping).

What is Neurodiagnostics? Neurodiagnostics is the recording of the electrical activity in the brain, central nervous system and peripheral nervous system using small electrodes and/or probes, depending on the type of test. It evaluates the nervous system's electrical activity and aids in diagnosing and treating common neurological issues that affect a growing population.

When is Neurodiagnositcs Testing Performed? Neurodiagnostics testing is used to diagnose a wide range of neurological issues such as epilepsy, migraines, head and spinal injuries, sleep disorders and strokes. The testing plays a very important role in determining courses of treatment for the above-mentioned disorders.

Where is the Neurodiagnostics Testing Performed? Neurodiagnostics testing is performed in a broad area of locations. Wherever there is a need, from the neurologist's office to trauma ICU, to even the living room of a patient. These tests may be administered just about anywhere.

Why Should You Consider a Career in Neurodiagnostics? According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the field of Neurodiagnostics has a projected growth of 7.5%, adding approximately 11,000 new jobs by 2026. There are many exciting career paths within the field, including Neurodiagnostics Technologist, Nerve Conduction Technologist, and Intra-Operative Monitoring. Salary ranges are competitive and the opportunity for advancement exists, as there are several different modalities available.

Qualifications:

Education/Training
High school graduate or equivalent.
Completion of an AMA-accredited training program in Electroencephalographic Technology, Electrodiagnostics or
Electroneurodiagnostics field. One year clinical experience in the electroneurodiagnostic field and successful demonstration of
electroneurodiagnostic clinical competencies may substitute for training program (in addition to the requirements listed in the
Experience section).
Licensure/Certification
Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider Certification.
Experience
One year clinical experience in the electroneurodiagnostic field.
