Job Summary

Responsible for health system risk management and educational activities to facilitate a culture of safety and risk reduction. Under the direction of the Corporate Director of Safety, coordinates work within the safety department and with other departments to enhance organizational improvement efforts and system priorities.Performs patient safety event reviews, Root Cause Analysis, Proactive Risk Assessments, Failure Mode Effect Analysis, and environmental assessments, formulating effective improvement strategies with findings. Leads, facilitates, and teaches teams to sustain major change initiatives across the organization. Facilitates a preventative approach to risk reduction through various work initiatives and projects. Innovative thinker and strategist with expert skills in leading improvement efforts.

Responsibilities

-Designs and implements a patient safety system that enhances near miss reporting and actual event reporting throughout the organization. -Analyzes trends and potential areas of risk. Identifies key performance indicators directed at risk reduction and prevention. -Develops actionable scope of work for risk reduction and avoidance. -Ensures scope of project has actionable goals, tracks, manages and moves projects to completion. -Provides expert direction and advice to enhance organizational success in risk minimization. -Facilitates teams to ensure appropriate identification, correction, evaluation, causation, and preventative strategies for safety events and quality improvement efforts. -Leads identification, prioritization, and selection efforts of process improvement activities to substantially increase the consistency and quality of services facilitating system-wide change. -Designs and refines training content, supplementary materials, and learning activities that meet the evolving performance improvement objectives. -Provides and promotes a fun, continuous learning and improvement environment within departments and organization. -Leverages organizational talents to reach departmental and organizational goals. -Emphasizes safety and teambuilding methodologies as strategic imperatives in projects and scope of work. -Maintains files, records, documents needed by internal and external policies and by legal counsel. -Prepare trended informational reports, summaries, and presentations as needed. -Maintains pertinent knowledge through review of current literature, searching existing healthcare information sources and researching clinical finds for patient safety relevant issues.-Attend/facilitate committees as assigned. -Literature and best practice reviews on-going to facilitate organizational knowledge around current practices and future benchmarks. -Leads professionalism activities for improved safety culture. -Primary educator for the safety department and for initiatives leading to enhanced safety culture.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact)The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Perform related duties as assigned.

Education

Master's Degree (Required) Education:Master's degree in healthcare field preferred Experience:2 years of Risk Management required.Green belt experience preferred or within 2 years of hire Comments:Demonstrate proficient skills in teambuilding and knowledge sharing.Strong acumen of risk minimization strategies, analysis methodologies, and educational expertise related to healthcare. Ability to construct data findings in verbal, written, and presentation formats.Advanced proficiency using the complete suite of Microsoft Office tools with emphasis on Excel, Minitab, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook and other web based applications.Familiarity with regulatory agency standards, processes, patient safety initiatives and goals.Manages multiple project effectively and timely.
