ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned.
- Responsible for all supervision of Vent unit staff and ensuring that their work is satisfactory and following policies and procedures
- Responsible for interviewing and hiring Vent unit staff
- Responsible for scheduling and the coordination of RTs schedules and monitor attendance
- Responsible that all Vent unit (and all facility staff, as applicable) staff is oriented and has competencies completed for vent unit
- Responsible for compliance of staff in-services
- Responsible for ordering supplies needed for Respiratory Services
- Responsible for audits of all charts on unit
- Responsible for auditing all new admissions on unit
- Responsible for auditing Respiratory charting
- Responsible for disciplining staff per company policies.
- Responsible to attend care conferences
- Responsible for attending daily morning meetings and Clinical Meetings, including weekly At-Risk and UR meetings
- Receive report from Respiratory Therapist
- Monitor vent units labs
- Monitor that Assessments are done in a timely fashion.
- Ensure that policies and procedures specific to Respiratory Unit are up to date and that all staff are familiar with policies and procedures
- Primary contact between Nursing and RTs
- Primary contact with Pulmonologist
- Primary contact with family members on the unit that may have any concerns, either respiratory or any other care concerns (guardian angel)
- Review referrals that are relevant to the respiratory unit including doing on-sites if necessary.
- Ensure respiratory admissions are handled and prepared and all equipment and settings are set up before admission arrives
- Ensure that all orders are received in a timely manner and clarified if necessary
- Assist staff in completing initial admissions assessment
- Assist staff in clinical procedures if needed including trach changes

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. The completion of an approved school for respiratory therapy.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES: Active State Respiratory Care Practitioner License.
