We are looking for a Chief Engineer for Anesthesia and Respiratory Care (ARC) business unit to lead our engineering efforts and drive the next generation of Anesthesia delivery innovations.
The Chief Engineer role for ARC business unit will be responsible for understanding key customer challenges, leading innovation to solve those challenges, and guiding the business on core technologies. The role will focus on both technology identification, as well as developing our technical career path team members.
The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing all technical, systems & development process aspects of engineering and product development, from conceptualization, product development and post launch lifecycle.
The Chief Engineer will work in partnership with the ARC business's CTO and other Engineering Directors to define and execute the technical strategy on products, platforms, processes, and engineering organizational development.

Job Description
Essential Responsibilities

  • Understand core customer challenges and needs in the Anesthesia space.
  • Identify technology trends within and external to the industry to stay abreast of advancements and drive innovation.
  • Provide technical leadership for developing solutions to complex medical device challenges, fostering innovation and high-performance standards globally.
  • Oversee the design and development of new medical devices, ensuring they are innovative, efficient, and effective.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align product development with market needs and company goals.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards for all medical devices.
  • Lead innovation concepts and organize a global technical leadership team for technology solutions and development projects, enhancing the technology roadmap.
  • Advance the state-of-the-art in the field, including generating patents and publications in leading journals and conferences.
  • Lead global technology design and innovation strategy. Create and maintain overall technology roadmap that supports the ARC product council roadmaps.
  • Sponsor the execution of technology projects and drive a robust technical review & product risk management process.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and integrate ethical considerations and sustainability principles into product development.
  • Protect intellectual property and develop a strong Intellectual Property Strategy. Serve as the intellectual property champion for the ARC business.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks in medical device development and production.
  • Ensure that all medical devices are designed and manufactured in compliance with relevant regulatory standards (e.g., FDA regulations, CE marking, ISO standards).
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams such as product management, regulatory, quality & regions in defining, developing and maintaining the ARC device portfolio and roadmap.
  • Partner with functional management for talent development within the technical career path framework. Drive Technical Ownership map and Technical career path strategy development.
  • Serve as the ARC business unit's technical liaison for external partnerships with customers, regulatory bodies, standards committees and industry organizations like APSF (Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation)
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or greater in Engineering, Science, or Technology related field or equivalent experience.
  • 15+ years of relevant engineering leadership work experience in Anesthesia or related medical device development field.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop products in a medical device setting, showing experience in building broad strategies, planning technology strategy & implementations, and communicating effectively.
  • Demonstrated experience in translating customer problems to effective solutions.
  • Experienced in working in a global, matrixed organization.
  • Demonstrated engineering knowledge, program management skills, and business planning processes.
  • Demonstrated experience in driving advanced technology and intellectual property strategy development.
  • Demonstrated experience as a technical liaison for external partnerships with customers, regulatory bodies, standards committees and industry organizations.
  • Experienced in driving disciplined technical product development process in a medical device product development field.
  • Experienced in connecting organizational technical strategy with technical ownership map and technical career path framework for building the technical depth in a global team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FDA design control requirements.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10%, both domestically and internationally.
  • Strong communication skills.
Desired Characteristics
  • Master's Degree or greater in Engineering, Science, or Technology related field or equivalent experience.
  • 20 years+ of relevant engineering leadership experience in Anesthesia or related medical device development.
  • Demonstrated strong people management skills with proven abilities in mentoring, coaching, and motivating teams.
  • Experienced driving continuous functional excellence in engineering and implementing quality management systems.
  • Experienced in working with customers and have the ability to work cross-functionally.

  • Experience with GEHC's Quality Management System, product development framework, and associated tools.
