Job Description

Reporting to the VP of Sales Marketing, this position (BUM) is responsible for business results (profit and loss, meeting annual plan, and growth in the value of the business). The scope of the position includes leadership of a cross-functional business unit team (contracts, operations, engineering, quality), new business generation, proposal preparation, bookings (orders), profit and loss accountability, developing and maintaining customer relationships, establishing the yearly business plan, overseeing operating activities to ensure good customer service and cost objective are met, contract negotiation and other duties.

Specific Duties Responsibilities:

Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead and guide the business team in the pursuit of profitable new international business and maintain clear focus and priorities in the product team.
  • Focus on value creation - value-based pricing, continual cost improvement, and identifying profitable new business opportunities.
  • Develop relationships at new business accounts while maintaining long-standing relationships with distributors, end users, and OEMs.
  • Develop annual and long-term business plans for business units.
  • Determine and implement strategic and/or tactical plans to win profitable new business.
  • Negotiate sales and marketing contractual commitments with OEMs and end users.
  • Oversight of staff as necessary to support business growth and customer retention.
  • Work closely with the entire organization regarding business targets and actions, including customer meetings and sales calls.
  • Oversight and involvement in the cost estimation process to ensure cost accuracy and appropriate pricing.
  • Prepare reports and present business unit results and metrics to company senior management.
  • Attend product demonstrations, shows, and other events as necessary.
Education Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree required; technical discipline preferred.
  • MBA preferred
  • Seven or more combined years of experience in Sales, Operations, Finance and/or Engineering with industrial experience preferred.
  • Aerospace or Industrial experience preferred
  • Military background with leadership experience preferred but not required
Qualifications:
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills.
  • Critical problem-solving abilities, analytical skills, and ability to demonstrate strategic initiative.
  • Willingness to travel and/or for long periods anywhere worldwide (30% travel).
  • Ability to work and travel independently, focusing on expanding current customer base and locating new business opportunities.
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Working knowledge of management and supervisory principles.
  • Able to manage and prioritize multiple programs to maximize value creation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and seeks clarification; responds well to questions; and demonstrates individual/group presentation skills.
  • Able to communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff.
  • Must effectively interact with diverse business contacts and company personnel.
  • Engages diplomacy when dealing with others; performs well under pressure; understands the need for accountability; and follows through on commitments


Travel Requirements:

Travel (30%) required to support customer visits, trade shows, product testing, and corporate presentations

ITAR Requirements:

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., and a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
