As a Production Engineer at Freeman Boatworks LLC, you will be responsible for optimizing manufacturing processes, ensuring product quality, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to the success of our production operations.Key Responsibilities:1. Process Optimization: Analyze existing manufacturing processes and identify opportunities for optimization, efficiency improvements, and cost reductions. Develop and implement solutions to streamline workflows and maximize productivity.2. Process Development: Design and develop manufacturing processes for composite boat production, including layup, curing, bonding, and finishing processes. Optimize process parameters to achieve desired product characteristics, minimize waste, and maximize efficiency.3. Production Planning: Work closely with production managers and planners to develop production schedules, allocate resources, and ensure timely completion of manufacturing orders. Monitor production progress and address any issues or delays as needed.4. Quality Assurance: Implement quality control measures to ensure that products meet the company's standards for performance, reliability, and safety. Develop and maintain quality inspection procedures, conduct audits, and address any non-conformances or defects.5. New Product Introduction: Collaborate with product development teams to transition new products from design to production. Develop manufacturing processes, assembly procedures, and testing protocols for new product launches.6. Material Selection and Qualification: Evaluate and select composite materials, resins, reinforcements, and additives for specific applications. Work with suppliers to qualify materials and ensure compliance with quality and performance requirements.7. Tooling Design and Fabrication: Collaborate with engineering and design teams to develop tooling, molds, and fixtures for composite part fabrication. Design tooling systems that optimize part quality, production throughput, and cost-effectiveness.8. Continuous Improvement: Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives to drive operational excellence. Utilize Lean Six Sigma principles, root cause analysis, and other methodologies to identify opportunities for process optimization and waste reduction.9. Supplier Management: Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials and components. Evaluate supplier performance, resolve any quality or delivery issues, and identify opportunities for cost savings or process improvements.10. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of manufacturing processes, procedures, and work instructions. Generate reports on key performance indicators (KPIs), production metrics, and quality performance to track progress and identify areas for improvement.RequirementsQualifications:- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related field.- Proven experience in production engineering, manufacturing operations, or process improvement roles, preferably in the marine or automotive industry.- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining, assembly, and quality control.- Proficiency in Lean Six Sigma methodologies and continuous improvement tools.- Experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and ERP systems.- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.- Project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.- Proven experience in process engineering, preferably in composite materials manufacturing or a related industry.- Strong understanding of composite materials technology, including resin systems, reinforcements, curing processes, and post-processing techniques.
