JOB DESCRIPTION

Junior Buyer / Warehouse Associate

I. BASIC FUNCTION

The primary function is to assist with procurement of goods and services for vessels and internal customers. The Junior Buyer / Warehouse Associate is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly warehouse.

II. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Purchase items ranging from groceries for the vessels to marine and safety supplies.
  • Assist in requesting RFQs for procurement of supplies needed for all internal customers.
  • Assist with identifying potential vendors.
  • Develop and maintain vendor relationships to ensure timely delivery of products and services.
  • Collaborate with other departments to determine procurement needs.
  • Review and approve purchase orders according to company policies and procedures.
  • Follow-up when expected responses are not received.
  • Handle routine expedites and track deliveries.
  • Monitor inventory levels and make recommendations for replenishments.
  • Manage internal catalog with updated pricing and setting up new items accordingly.
  • Work cross-functionally between buying and warehouse operations.
  • Arrange for service, maintenance, and cleanliness of all Illinois Marine Towing company vehicles.
  • Provide delivery (driving) for Canal Barge Company and Illinois Marine Towing vessels, as needed.
  • Track inbound packages.
A. Other
  • Back up other warehouse and procurement positions, as required.
  • Perform other duties as required and directed by management.
  • Carry out the Business Philosophy, Code of Conduct, and Mission of Canal Barge Company, Inc. and Illinois Marine Towing.

IV. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

The Junior Buyer/Warehouse Associate reports to the Procurement Manager.

V. EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
  • One year's experience in Procurement or Purchasing
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and vendors
  • Ability to work independently while supporting a team environment
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • High school diploma, or equivalent
  • Ability to drive a forklift (with certification)
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving history
  • Must possess or be able to obtain Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)


VI. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing 40 lbs. minimum. This role requires frequent standing, sitting, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, and stooping.
