Our Raleigh, NC office is looking for an Electrical Principle Engineer who will be responsible for providing operational and technical guidance for our design resources in all areas of work we do associated with electrical engineering. The Prinicipal Engineer will assist the Electrical Department Managers within a Business Unit/Office by providing them operational and technical guidance to help meet the clients desires and budget. Work with a team of engineers on a variety of private, public, and federal projects. In addition to working with electrical engineers, this individual will team with architectural, mechanical, structural, and other disciplines to provide full-range services to our local and regional clients. In short, provide operational and technical guidance associated with electrical requirements to accomplish our commitments. Reports to the Chief Electrical Engineer.

Responsibilities:

Provide high-level direction to senior electrical engineering staff to allow the Business Unit/Office to effectively operate and successfully complete projects, including:

  • Office Operations: Supervise all electrical department managers within an office or business unit for successful intra-office operations, by actively helping those department managers that report to you smoothly run their departments.
  • Service Line Operations: Assist the Chief Electrical Engineer leading MEPS Service Lines electrical community of practice to ensure successful inter-office electrical operations, by actively participating in the community of practice events and performing delegated tasks from the Chief.
  • Quality Management: Ensure electrical department managers are consistently applying and complying with corporate quality management processes and procedures.
  • Technical Management: Ensure electrical department managers are providing timely and adequate guidance and quality oversight, including code review, of all project work involving electrical engineering.
  • Staff Development Oversight: Ensure electrical department managers are providing adequate technical training and development of staff by providing guidance and mentoring of managers.
  • Standards Development Oversight: Ensure electrical department managers are establishing and improving standards, practices, guidelines, and specifications for their electrical discipline area. Principal shall lead the development of their office electrical standards and coordinate those standards through the Chief Engineer across offices.
  • Engineer of Record on select projects as needed.
  • Provide 'on-the-spot' advice and decisions - technical and cost estimates. Principal engineer is the top electrical engineer in an office unless electrical issue involves other offices in the service line then the Chief Engineer presides.
  • Coordinates with client/project managers and department managers within an office to resolve electrical engineering conflicts.
  • Office Organizational Management: Assist Office/Business Unit Manager to ensure successful office operations, including advice on staff organizational structure and office procedures.


Required Skills & Required Experience:

Accomplished electrical engineer/PE with 25+ years of progressive technical and staff management experience in the design of power distribution, lighting, life safety, and telecommunications systems. Experience should include technical oversight of multiple projects with proven success providing technical oversight on projects that meet contract specifications and technical standards to the client on time and within budget. Strong leader with a track record of building and maintaining electrical department operations. Self-motivated with highly developed verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
