With more than 700 employees in nine office locations throughout the United States, SGH's industry-leading teams constantly seek to advance the meaning of what's possible.POSITION OVERVIEW Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) is seeking a principal-level engineer in the area of Metallurgical Engineering to participate in the growth and development of its Engineering Mechanics and Infrastructure (EMI) group. SGH is partner-owned and offers compensation reflective of a principal's contribution to our business. Principals share directly in the profits of the firm.SGH METALLURGICAL ENGINEERING SGH is seeking to strengthen and grow its business in the area of metallurgical engineering and materials science. SGH currently has metallurgy-specific projects, staff and laboratory facilities to support our work in design, failure analysis, litigation and research for metals used in buildings, infrastructure, transportation, and mechanical components. The successful candidate's specialty areas would ideally align with and be supported by the primary disciplines of SGH's structural engineering, building technology, and advanced analysis practices, including materials selection, joining methods (especially welding), failure analysis, fracture and fatigue, cathodic protection, and corrosion. The EMI group provides various materials science services within the overall firm's capabilities to provide leading-edge technology and performance-based engineering. There are no geographical boundaries to our work. The EMI group benefits from direct access to SGH's national team of experts, including civil/structural and mechanical engineers, numerical analysts, materials scientists, chemists, and designers. The firm has comprehensive metallurgical and mechanical testing laboratories, including equipment for metallographic sample preparation, light and scanning electron microscopes, chemical analysis instruments, electro and servo-hydraulic universal testing machines, environmental chambers, and a strong floor. SGH maintains significant computing resources and commercial finite element analysis software, including ANSYS, Abaqus, LS-DYNA, and Nastran. The position office location preference is at our headquarters in Waltham, MA, but other locations will be considered that include periodic visits to the Waltham office.QUALIFICATIONS The successful candidate will have: 12+ years of professional experience in metallurgical engineering. Master of Science or Doctorate in Metallurgical, Materials Engineering or Materials Science Track record of technical excellence in Metallurgical Engineering Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain a solid client and revenue base Demonstrated strong leadership and mentoring skills and a track record of developing high-level talent Active participation in professional societies, published papers, and experience as an accomplished public speaker Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability or obtain within 2 years The successful candidate will have experience leading projects requiring creativity in solving unique metallurgy and materials-related problems.
