Job Description

Apex Clean Energy is currently adding a Training and Development Specialist to join our Human Resources Team within the People Operations Department. This role will be responsible for working across all aspects of the company to help develop and train all employees at every level.

Working with a high level of autonomy and a focus on professionalism, the Training and Development Specialist will design, implement, administer, and deliver innovative training solutions for both new and existing corporate and site-specific employees. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional partners, including Human Resources, Safety and Integrity, Asset Management and Operations, and senior management, to determine appropriate learning outcomes and competencies for instruction, and to develop our individual employees.

In this role, there is a significant focus on ensuring compliance, safety, and professionalism across all training and development initiatives. The Training and Development Specialist will develop and implement training curricula that not only enhance employee skills and knowledge but also adhere to regulatory standards and corporate policies. By prioritizing safety and compliance in all training programs, this person will work to create a culture of safety and adherence to best practices, thereby reducing risk and fostering a professional work environment. This commitment to compliance and safety is integral to maintaining Apex Clean Energy's high standards of operational excellence and employee well-being.

This role will also be responsible for developing a comprehensive manager and leadership program aimed at promoting diversity in leadership, supporting succession planning, and ensuring long-term business success. This program will focus on identifying and nurturing diverse talent within the organization, providing them with the necessary skills and opportunities to advance into leadership roles. By fostering an inclusive leadership pipeline, the manager will contribute to a robust succession planning strategy that aligns with the company's long-term objectives and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This initiative will help ensure that Apex Clean Energy remains competitive and forward-thinking in its approach to leadership development and organizational growth.

This position requires effective collaboration with organizational executives to develop and implement training solutions based on potential risk mitigation and optimization analyses. You will spearhead improvements to training programs, work processes, materials, equipment, tools, and procedures based on feedback from managers, supervisors, site leaders, and workers, utilizing pre- and post-training assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, facilitate, develop, and deliver training solutions for new and existing corporate and site-specific employees, including the development and implementation of training curricula, E-learning courses, training videos, and tutorials.
  • Work collaboratively with management and cross-functional partners to determine appropriate learning outcomes and competencies for instruction.
  • Oversee aspects of course quality, including content, editorial, and overall presentation of material, tracking, and resolving issues through the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Prepare and distribute training reports on a regular basis
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive training and onboarding program for internal personnel, enabling new employees to acquire the necessary skills, knowledge, and behaviors to become effective contributors.
  • Effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams such as HR, HSSE, and senior management to develop team and individual development plans.
  • Collaborate with organizational executives to develop and implement training solutions based on analyses of potential risk mitigation and/or optimization potentials.
  • Spearhead improvements to training programs, work processes, materials, equipment, tools, and procedures based on input from managers, supervisors, crew leaders, and workers, utilizing pre- and post-training assessments.
  • Create, administer, and manage a company-wide training matrix based on regulatory requirements and corporate professional development goals.
  • Create, administer, and manage a process for certification maintenance across all of Apex.
  • Ensure all training programs emphasize compliance, safety, and professionalism, fostering a culture of safety and adherence to best practices.
  • Develop a comprehensive manager and leadership program to promote diversity in leadership, support succession planning, and ensure long-term business success.
  • Provide Learning & Development support across all lines of business.
  • Facilitate Learning & Development as an instructor, designer, business partner, and internal consultant.
  • Recommend learning solutions that influence positive behavioral change, align with strategic business objectives, and enhance individual and organizational capability.
  • Develop recommendations for changes and improvements to Learning & Development processes, ensuring alignment with company objectives and philosophy.
  • Apply project management and organizational skills to effectively prioritize, manage, and complete multiple projects to achieve business objectives.
  • Administer and drive engagement of Apex's professional Mentorship Program.
Qualifications

To succeed as a Training & Development Specialist at Apex Clean Energy, you'll need to excel within the following criteria:

  • BA/BS degree in a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in training and learning & development
  • Master Training Specialist or similar certification
  • Demonstrated success in training and development program management, including managing complex projects involving numerous stakeholders and timelines
  • Experience in training budget management and efficient allocation of resources
  • Proficiency in competency development and assessment, ensuring alignment with organizational goals
  • Skilled in curriculum design and development, creating effective learning materials
  • Experience as a learning management system administrator, hosting content, tracking learning activities, and reporting to stakeholders
  • Strong focus on safety compliance management, integrating safety principles into all training programs
  • Proven expertise in developing onboarding activities that facilitate smooth transitions for new hires.
  • Applied knowledge of continuous improvement management, driving enhancements in training programs.
  • Competent with various Learning Management Systems and proficient with Adobe products, Course Authoring Software, and Microsoft Office products.
  • Proven skills in problem-solving, planning, and organizing.
  • Proven experience demonstrating the ROI of learning and development solutions.
  • High level of attention to detail.

Work Environment:

Works primarily traditional office hours in an indoor office environment. Flexible work hours allowed when work duties and business operations permit.
