ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Robotic Welder builds healthy communities through play and recreation by safely welding metal parts together using a robotic welder machine to produce high quality assemblies. This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
  • Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, and or weld fixture.
  • Read, interpret, and perform welding techniques to fabricate parts to be used in the manufacturing of the product. This includes possessing basic mechanical knowledge and use of hand tools, following instructions, and welding products.
  • Apply competencies in welding and utilize computer-based software to operate the robotic welder machine.
  • Calculate machine speed and feed ratios and the size of the position of cuts.
  • Stop machines to remove finished materials or to change tooling, set up, or material placement according to the required machine sequences.
  • Monitor machine operation and control panel display and compare readings to specifications to detect malfunctions.
  • Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when automatic programing is faulty or if the machine malfunctions
  • Confer with management to resolve machine malfunctions and production errors, and/or to obtain approval to continue production.
  • Employee is responsible for any rework or corrections as necessary to ensure a product meets specifications
  • Load and unload material manually depending on weight and size.
  • Clean machines, tooling, and parts
  • Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and material on the machine using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Performs manual welding during robot weld cycle, if required
  • May install or repair equipment.
  • Observes tests on welded surfaces to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.
  • Inspects grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Removes rough spots from work piece, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper.
  • Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
  • Uses templates and other work aids to hold and align parts to ensure quality and consistency of parts produced.
  • Determines required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
  • Satisfy the required hours of the department.
Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Requires a broad knowledge of welding. The welding requirements may vary widely depending on the job being offered, this could include that some positions may be on the job for entry-level positions. Higher-level welder positions may require years of formal education in vocational or technical schools or colleges. Some welder positions require a general welding certification or a certificate in a specialty such as robotic welding.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Able to speak effectively with employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule forms.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.

  • The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
  • The employee is required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while in the manufacturing environment such as steel toe shoes, eye protection and welding arc protection such as gloves and fire resistance clothing.
  • The employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions.

The noise level of the work environment is usually moderate to loud, and hearing protection is required in specific areas of the facility.
