Position Description
Principal administrative officer of a college/library in the Texas Tech University System. The chief responsibility is the development, supervision, and operation of the academic programs of the college or school in accordance with established guidelines, governmental regulations, and the mission of Texas Tech. The dean and staff serve as consultants on all academic matters, such as course changes, choice of major, and degree requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
* Demonstrated success in effectively managing a complex organization through substantial and ongoing transformation, showcasing a talent for fostering innovation and generating novel ideas
* Experience working and leading in an organization that prioritizes its core values
* Strong leadership skills in overseeing undergraduate and graduate medical education programs, marked by successful collaborations
* A comprehension of the business aspects of medicine and the capability to effectively communicate the value of academic programs to diverse stakeholders
* Proven success in strengthening the research programs of an academic unit by addressing faculty needs and cultivating environments that foster research excellence
* Ability to cultivate a sense of community and actively involve faculty, staff, students, and alumni in supporting a collectively shared strategic vision
* Experience in community engagement initiatives within the healthcare or medical education settings
* Successful recruitment efforts, including visionary hires that enhance the success of a unit, with a commitment to mentoring and fostering leadership development
* Experience with LCME accreditation review, or other educational accrediting body review
* Experience in creating inter?professional education initiatives
* Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, including active listening to diverse perspectives and cultivating a supportive and collaborative working environment
* Management style characterized by collegiality and consultation, and demonstrating the capability to be decisive while considering the needs and perspectives of faculty, staff, and learners
* Ability to articulate an inspiring long?term vision, serving as an eloquent and engaging spokesperson
* Authenticity and self?confidence, coupled with the political acumen to effectively optimize and balance the interests of diverse constituencies in a constructive manner
Required Qualifications
* MD degree, MD/PhD degrees, or equivalent degree
* Texas medical license, or eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas
* Board Certification in the candidate's specialty/discipline by a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties
* Leadership experience at the level of Department Chair, Vice?Chair, Division Chief, Associate Dean, or other comparable experience
* Established national reputation in academic medicine
* Qualified for faculty appointment at the rank of full professor
