The Connections Youth Program is a family centered support program that links adults who are Deaf, Deaf Blind or Hard of Hearing (DDBHH) ("Mentors") with families who have children who are DDBHH, providing an array of support services in the home, school and community. Through this connection, Mentors support families by providing their perspective as an individual who is DDBHH, teaching sign language, and representing CHS at outreach events, through trainings, workshops and meetings.

What you'll do:
  • Collaborate with families to determine and achieve appropriate program goal/s.
  • Support families' communication opportunities with their child, including all communication approaches.
  • Provide relevant information, resources, and advocacy as it pertains to families' individualized needs, priorities and goal/s.
  • Teach sign language and early literacy techniques, one-on-one or in groups, remote or in-person, to a variety of participants.
  • Provide information on assistive technology (auditory and visual) for DDBHH individuals as it relates to families.
  • Outreach to Parents and Professionals regarding the Connections Youth Program including its programs and services.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA degree in social work, psychology, counseling, early childhood education or related human services field preferred.
  • Must be Deaf, Deaf Blind or Hard of Hearing.
  • Be flexible with scheduling sessions.
  • Knowledge of the technology available to assist with effective communication with families.
  • Ability to be inclusive, open-minded and supportive of family decisions with their communication and amplification approaches.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to an operational vehicle to transport self to various locations.
  • Must follow HIPAA laws and other policies of the program.
  • Ability to promote and adhere to agency values.
